New Ferry Coming to Trinidad
The government of Trinidad and Tobago is planning to add an additional inter-island ferry, it announced this week.
Trinidad’s government is expected to invest around $7.4 million USD annually to provide service on the MV Superfast Galicia ship, according to Trinidad Transport Minister Stephen Cadiz.
The new ship is slated to arrive in the country ahead of the Easter holiday, in time for the upcoming Tobago Jazz Festival, which lasts from April 19 to April 27.
“All in all this is a far better deal for Tobago,” Cadiz said.
The ship, which will be coming from Gibraltar, is 11 years old and 160 metres long.
It will require “minor modifications,” Cadiz said, which will be undertaken at the ferry terminal in Port of Spain.
The ship has restrooms for disabled people, medical facilities and even a prison cell for transporting prisoners.
It can transport up to 112 passengers, along with 110 trailers and 60 cars.
