ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Even with six consecutive Road March Crowns in the bag, the Virgin Islands’ very own soca royalty, Showtime, has shown no signs of slowing down and have simply been amping up the pace ahead of this year’s Emancipation Festival.

Speaking exclusively with Virgin Islands News Online, band leader Ottley Hodge disclosed that the group’s newest album, Sort Out/Good Over Evil, is set to make its debut on June 29, 2013.

It is simply a testament to their dominance and stamina that after so many years on the scene, Showtime has been able to find that extra gear to power its way into another Festival of expected success.

The album has been in the making since April and the group’s manager, Kensley Samuel, said everyone is looking forward to the album’s release. He felt fans have been really excited about all the songs that have been released from the album so far.

The members could not say how many tracks were on the album at this time but listed some of them as ‘Sort Out’, ‘My Genie’, ‘Show Off’, ‘Push’ and ‘Whistle While You Work’. Hodge said the released tracks have been receiving much airplay on local radio stations.

The band currently consists of 10 members including three vocalists and will continue to bring soca in true ‘VI style’ along with a mixture of other soca, according to Samuel.

Once the album has been released, fans can pick up copies from members of the band, some online locations including i-tunes as well as Bolo’s.

With the departure of some of its key members late last year, Hodge said, “I think the morale [of the band] is really good, we are focused on what we are making, we don’t really try to focus on the past. We just really try to focus on what we want to accomplish.”

The same principle was applied when it came to a promised lawsuit over the use of the band’s name by the members of the group who had split with the band.

“We’re really just focusing on us and moving forward,” he added.

Hodge also said that with regard to any expected competition for this year’s festival, the band only intended to put its best foot forward.

“Basically we’re just trying to continue providing music that people would relate to,” Hodge stated, “it’s something that we've been doing for years.” He added that the music would be of no less quality from what has been produced in previous years and the band would continue trying to evolve

There will also be an album release party coming shortly with the date and additional details yet to be announced. Fans can also look forward to seeing the group perform live at ‘Da Spot’ [formerly Bat Cave] this Friday, June 21, 2013 as part of the lead up to the album’s release.

Showtime is far superior than VI Showtime when it comes to lyrics and playing actual music. VI Showtime has the 'hype' and the more popular guys and followers, but that's where it all ends for them. Boss is a musical genius in his own right. He may come off as arrogant and cocky at times but hey, the man is good and he knows it. I have heard their recent tunes and they're sounding good. IF they can keep this band together for a few years they will be a real force to reckon with Regionally not just locally. Keep up the good works guys, should be a good 'show' down come festival. Glad to see albums releasing early too.
