ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The well-known proverb, ‘Ask and it shall be given to you’, proved true for the senior citizens of the Abraham Lennard Community Centre in Carrot Bay.

On a visit to the centre, Programme Supervisor Mrs. Edris Donovan told Neighbourhood Officer for the West End Community, Anelle Francis and her supervisor Sergeant Tilda Henry that the seniors wanted to take a trip to Virgin Gorda but had no funding. The officers immediately went to work seeking community members who would partner with Police on this project.

Taxi operator Kumba Smith, when asked, immediately said he would cover the boat fare for the 16 seniors scheduled to go on the trip, while the Manager for Inland Messenger and Mailbox Rental Ramon Robles readily provided the cost of the lunch for the day.

Speedy’s manager Carolie George offered a package at a reduced cost for the seniors to travel to Virgin Gorda and donated a safari bus and driver to provide an island tour. Dawn Flax of Fishers Cove also provided lunch for the seniors at a reduced price.

With Neighbourhood Officer Francis and Volunteer Nurse Aid Tracia Peterson on board, the group set sail on April 18. Neighbourhood Officer for Virgin Gorda Dwight Williams was on the other end to receive the group and ensured a safe and enjoyable visit to the sister island.

Mrs. Donovan had nothing but praise and gratitude for the Neighbourhood Officers as well as the community members who donated their time and resources.

Within the Virgin Gorda community, Neighbourhood Officer Williams is well-known in the schools where he is often asked to advise on and speak to students displaying anti-social behaviour. Recently, Officer Williams spoke to children at the Bregado Flax Primary Division and at the Cornerstone Primary School on respecting themselves and each other.
