NDP struggles to respond to Hon Fahie's corruption charges!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- More than 48 hours after senior Virgin Islands Party (VIP) member Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) leveled serious charges against the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) Administration, labeling them as “the most corrupt government in the modern history of the Territory”, they have struggled to respond.

According to senior National Democratic Party members, who have spoken to our newsroom on condition of anonymity, the party is working on a draft response that could be issued by Wednesday latest, if not tomorrow.

It is reported that they are now on draft two of the response.

The same source also reported that controversial Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn is allegedly heavily involved in the response, along with the wife of a certain Minister, but the source said they could not elaborate at this time.

Two civil servants called our newsroom today to say they were asked to do research on specific areas and they suspect it has to do with the response by the current administration to Hon Fahie’s charge of corruption.

Hon Fahie, an outspoken former Minister for Education and Culture, stood by his speech that he delivered on January 24, 2015 at Capoon's Bay Recreational Grounds and this morning, January 26, 2015 appeared on a Morning Ride Show on ZROD 103.7 FM with Paul ‘Gadiethz” Peart, where he further defended the notion that the NDP is the most corrupt government in our modern history.

Hon Fahie stopped short of going into details but promised to have more to say once the NDP responds.

However, word from Hon Fahie’s First District Committee is that their representative's message will be rebroadcast this evening January 26, 2015 at 9:00 PM on radio Station ZBVI 780 AM.

Today, on his Facebook page, a weakened Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith claimed that Hon Fahie’s speech was a “surrender to the lure of dirty politics”.

It remains unclear if those were the words of Smith himself or one of his many handlers or speechwriters locally or from overseas.

In the same facebook message, Hon Smith promised readers that “my administration will release a full rebuttal later...”

Auditor General & PAC found corruption

Two scathing reports on the Ports Development Project under the NDP watch, one authored by the Virgin Islands Auditor General Ms Sonia M. Webster and the other by the five-member Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Assembly, had the same conclusions.

Both reports unearthed corruption, conflict of interest, disregard for the laws of the Virgin Islands, unfair practices, undue influence in favour of one developer, disregard for the established tendering process and found that no one was looking out for the interest of the people and taxpayers of the Virgin Islands, putting the people at a disadvantage.

Dr Smith and NDP just like children. Rebuttal for what. The time you going take doing a tit for tat you can take that same time and energy concentrating on real problems. This country doesn't belong to you, NDP, VIP or nobody. It's all ah we and a lot of us out here suffering under your government. People fraid to even go to the hospital now. Yes, fee increase is a must, and I for one don't mind paying for service, but the kind of hike in a down economy was not done with the people you claim to represent in mind. Do something more constructive with your time 'bout you rebutting. sickening man!

Here we go again wasting time. If the Premier take this same time to straighten up the crookedness in the Cruise Pier Project, among many other projects in his government it would do us the people better.

The NDP local speech writers like Potter, Myron and LS, Ms. P are a big joke. Only in a banana plantation society this type of thing can happen, wating some three days to response.

Regardless of what, if the full stories come out on corruption, half of the House of Assembly and two certain politicians on the goverment side who loves to blow hot air will be running for cover, that’s a fact!!!.
  • Yao (27/01/2015, 00:58) Like (13) Dislike (0) Reply
The thing with the NDP is that even when the VIP is right they still try to deny facts. The 1st district and other VIP districts have been widely ignored.

the NDP is smart, sophisticated, educated and slick... but they are arrogant, self-serving, self-important, sprinkled with conflicts of interest. They expect people to help pay for their grandiosity like contributing to the expense of the hospital and cruise ship dock. Why do we need such a big 6-story hospital for 28,000 people? as a monument to all the doctors in government? how did they expect to cover the purported $40 million a yr overhead?
I don't know of any other government who panhandles the public to support government projects with promises of big returns. Given all the mis-communication and lack of procedures, can they fullfill their promises? no.
While waiting for the inquiry, the cruise ship project marches on. Its design worthy of a warehouse in Miami with no character. this is an opportunity lost for something identifiable based on heritage, not generic. And if anyone challenges this party, they are cast aside, fired and shut out. That is not freedom of speech.

the VIP has their short-comings, true. and but maybe they can concentrate on building a better foundation before raising a house. But NDP is so focused on "world-class" they don't have the patience to do it right. And all the while, north sound VG dictates development right down to an airport expansion we don't need. they are dazzled by glitter and money. How else can a US developer recently buy 6 properties at once?on west end, beef island and VG? Truth.

      7th District - Kedrick Pickering
