‘NDP lied & deceived taxpayers saying VIP left country broke’ - Hon Fraser

-Hon Julian Fraser delivered his first National Address since becoming Virgin Islands Party Boss
Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) (left) who is serving his fourth consecutive term representing the Third District said, “so taking 3/4 of November 2011 and all of December 2011 that amounts to $35 million, and taking the same NDP's claim that the VIP left a $30 million debt into consideration, which makes a total of $65 million in debt and expenses, I ask this question. Mr. Premier (Dr the Hon D. Orlando Smith, right), you paid the $65 million in commitments, and you were left with $10 million. So, where did $10 million disappear to?” Photo: VINO/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Putting the notion to rest that the Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is dead, the Territory heard last evening November 12, 2014 from the party Chairman Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3), in a national broadcast carried on radio and television.

Many party loyalist and voters have complained for months that they were not hearing from their leader Hon. Fraser who replaced Honourabe Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) in an internal party election on May 28, 2014 becoming the third Chairman of the VIP.

In his over 20 minutes address to the Virgin Islands Hon Fraser outlined his economic solutions if his party is returned to office and pointed out how a VIP Government will be different from that of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) regime now in power for three plus years.

However, while giving a speech of hope, solutions and facts the new VIP firebrand leader threw some punches in what he described as ‘setting the record straight’.

NDP propaganda on VIP leaving country broke was a lie!

“Before I get into how the VIP will address these pressing matters including the economy, let me move to an area I call setting the record straight, and be forthright in making you the wiser,” the party Chairman told the listeners.

“The current NDP Government stated a gross untruth almost immediately upon winning the elections of 2011, with propaganda that the Virgin Islands Party left the country broke,” according to Hon Fraser.

The party Chairman when on to say, “in fact, it has become crystal clear that this was a gross fabrication from the analysis, and from thorough assessment of the matter.”

As a matter of fact, it has been confirmed that between November 7, 2011 the date upon which the NDP took office, and the end of year December 31, 2011, that within that seven short weeks the NDP collected $53 million from the Financial Services Commission alone.

But not only that, Hon Fraser said, the NDP was the beneficiary of another $22 million from additional sources during that same time period. In short, the NDP inherited $75 million from the outgoing Virgin Islands Party Government in 2011.

“Bear in mind that this financial information came from the Premier and Minister of Finance himself,” the veteran politician Hon Fraser articulated.

“The very healthy financial state in which the VIP left the country was revealed by the Premier, during the Questions and Answers period of the 7th Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 2nd House of Assembly on June 13th 2014,” Hon Fraser said.

“So not only was this a gross fabrication, but the NDP deceived you the taxpaying public, the NDP was less than forthright to you about the state of the country's finances,” he said.

“Now even the Minister for Health himself, a man with some proficiency in financial matters, has stated repeatedly, that government requires $20 million in cash each month to operate,” he said.

Under NDP $10M missing

Hon Fraser who is serving his fourth consecutive term representing the Third District said “so taking 3/4 of November 2011 and all of December 2011 that amounts to $35 million, and taking the same NDP's claim that the VIP left a $30 million debt into consideration, which makes a total of $65 million in debt and expenses, I ask this question. Mr. Premier, you paid the $65 million in commitments, and you were left with $10 million. So, where did $10 million disappear to?”

Hon Fraser told the public that this remains an unanswered question!

actually the more he talks, the more he alienates people. I am relieved he hasn't been vocal lately and I am glad that Fahie has become more visible. Fraser should let others speak more in public with his visibility in campaigning. He can be the puppeteer behind the scenes if he wants, but he has to learn to say what he means and means what he says. walk the talk and not sensationalize or whine.

You are so happy to hear Fraser bam? You people have no shame. The VIP put this country on a stand still for over 3 years and here the NDP is bringing it back on it's feet and you all rallying around nonsense? You all better join the PEP or something new because that VIP under Fraser will not carry no elections. BAM BAM that!!

This is exactly what I wanted to hear from Fraser and the VIP. I want more pressure from the opposition and the people of the BVI. This incompetent NDP gang should be sanctioned and new elections called.

Despite being an ardent VIP supporter, I am torn on this issue. On one hand, I want VIP to antagonize and confront the NDP who have been using incendiary language and waving a red flag in front of Fraser and Uncle door.. On the other hand, I am not sure that the nation is on Fraser's side on the issues
