'NDP Gov’t killed the middle class!' - Speak Your Mind caller

- said $50 not even enough to buy groceries these days
A caller to the Speak Your Mind television show of March 7, 2015 labelled the National Democratic Party (NDP) government the worst as she alleged they have killed off the middle class people of the territory. Photo: VINO/File
"This government, I mean they have done some good, yes give them their jacket, but they have killed the middle class people and it's the middle class people that's keeping the territory afloat. Right now you can't even go in a grocery store with $50 and come out feeling comfortable and it don't matter, you can go in the minister's own supermarket and still not come out feeling comfortable with what you buy. This is BS and I really annoyed," said the caller. Photo: VINO

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A caller to the Speak Your Mind television show of Saturday March 7, 2015 labelled the National Democratic Party (NDP) government the worst as she alleged they have killed off the middle class people of the territory.

This is BS and I really annoyed."

She said that it's time persons speak out against such struggles. "Come on people wake up, open your eyes, stop taking things under the table and think about the territory," she begged.

‎The caller said that in her opinion everything in the Virgin Islands (VI) has gone political, "and it's sickening and people need to stop and see what is really going on in this place."

She also said, "Not because a minister comes and give you a little money under the table means that they are doing what's right or good for the territory."

‘Vote policies not party’

The female caller challenged persons eligible to vote in the VI not to vote for any particular party come national elections, "because it doesn’t make sense, vote the best candidate... Let us have a whole new system going in there. When they go in there ain't no VIP, ain't no NDP, ain't no APV or whatever let them have to form a new government and come together for the betterment of this territory. Stop looking at what you can get under the table...

"I am basically tired of hearing people saying Government can't do everything, they only had three years to do whatever. But yes they only had three years to do whatever; however, they have to look at how they spend the money and what they put their interest into."

The NDP Government has largely been accused of spending big monies on contracts for cronies while initially crying that the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government of Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) had left the country broke.

‘New Peebles Hospital just a show!’

Sharing her opinion in the area of health, the caller said she feels the construction of the new Peebles Hospital is nothing but for a show. "Personal experience - I went there, apparently you have to pay before you see the doctor. You go there you sit you wait for hours. Nurses passing, people passing, nobody saying well ok this is the situation. There is no professionalism going on in that hospital and they expect people to pay up front to see a doctor. I left twice going there, paid to see a doctor and didn’t see a doctor and had to find money to go to a private doctor."

The woman also contended that persons should be assured of what kind of service they are getting when seeking health care services.

In her expressed opinion, the “mega” building that now houses the new Peebles Hospital wasn't really necessary as she said that since Government is not in a position to fully and properly furnish it with the necessary equipment and human resource the better thing might have been to upgrade the old building and spend the money in adding new and improved necessary equipment and human resources.

I don't think that you would be able to comprehend the worlds problems so it would be wasted on you. The problems of the BVI are as a result of the last 40 years political games, not just 3 1/2

This is absolute nonsense,if we truly want cheap groceries let us put our money together and buy an container
ship that can bring our containers, register these ships with our shipping registry, get fuel for them duty free.when
we do that then we have cause to complain. While we are controlled by outside forces we have no control on how
they run their businesses .The average cost to shop a 20' container from the usa to here around $3500.00 while
it is about a third of that to nearby usvi then think of the other add on.I think some of you people who are here
commenting has not a clue what you are commenting about.

even if the NDP killed the middle class,it started with the VIP by giving us fish instead
of teaching us how to fish.

You should be glad you had a job and still have a job and will get paid.I've dealt with
some of you public servants and to be honest i dont think some of you all dont even
deserve the pay muchless the increments you are crying about.

what is new about NDP killing the middle-class; NDP's administrative agenda is turning these islands in-to the play-gourd for the rich....our people struggled so hard and held on to the BVI in the good times and in bad-times...along comes the current administration with these big-teams and now leaving our people suffering ( i can talk, because i feeling it; no one have to tell me i live it from-day-to day)...I personally think that BV Islanders MUST struggle far to hard these day in the BVI and that is some-what unreasonable.....what about our children and their children; I cant see them no-way in the NDP's current agenda, as it relates to the further development of the BVI....just saying, so run quick go talk it !!!!

around before the Ndp came on the scene who sold the land for them to be built, also
who were the people that frequent them.Iused to work in thetourism industry so i know.
