BAUGHER’S BAY, Tortola, VI - It has often been said that slim girls should beware of a fat girl entering a dance competition. That may have been the driving factor behind organizers getting local girls to enter a Dance Hall competition last Saturday night, December 28, 2013.

The competition, which was held in the presence of a packed hall at Club Opium in Baugher's Bay, was the 3rd annual of its kind promoted by HD Promotions.

A purse of $800 was up for the taking by ladies drawn from the [British] Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands and St Maarten. Several had registered to enter but they must have been scared off when they saw Ms Benz Fluffy from St Maarten strutting her stuff moments before the beginning of the competition.

At the start only two women took to the stage, USVI and Ms Fluffy, and all those from the VI backed out and were reluctant to take the stage. But little did they know there was a plan by the St Maarten participant who the crowd gave the name “rollie pollie”.

During the first leg of the competition, she did not show off her true colours and that must have been a catch as afterwards, five local girls entered with thoughts they had what it took to grab the $800 purse, but they were tricked.

Ms Benz unleashed a flood of crazy, wild and true dancehall style dance that made her the clear favourite of the crowd from the beginning to the end. She stood on her head, sprawled, split, rolled and of course all plastered with much gyrating and styles. The USVI competitor was knocked out after the very first round.

Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online following the competition, Ms Fluffy’s Manager, Shy Gal (stage name) from Caribbean Diva Promotions, St Maarten said that while she was not pleased that the local girls were allowed to enter the competition after the first round of the competition she was confident that they were no match for her girl.

“She is very flexible and does this all over the Caribbean, they just couldn’t hold her for nothing,” said Ms Shy Gal.

Walking away with the $800 by the plus size woman, according to her, was testimony that flexibility has nothing to do with size but endurance and skill. “I fat, they call me Rollie Pollie, I like the name, but they cannot hold me, I am healthy, strong and very flexible all time,” said Ms Fluffy.

Utter RUBBISH! If we want to copy the culture of other countries, why not copy the positive? This was just tasteless foolishness. Looking at the pics I can imagine in there smelled like 100 cans of tuna/sardines. *Barf*

@Hmmm: Well said, it is a shame to see the BVI going down the tubes with this kind of culture. Who is to blame, Government for allowing a certain class of people to take up residence in the BVI.

Kingfish as far as I'm aware it's locals who promoted this show not expats. I stand to be corrected though. I'm no saint, far from and love to party/dance. But this is overboard in my opinion. As you can see from the turn out people love this kind of stuff so to each his own i guess.

What is the purpose of the Trade License Process? These types of promotions and business places should not be granted a trade license renewal. They are ruining our country. When persons want this garbage let them have to travel.

Sure and when the tourists stop coming cos the place has no entertainment you'll be quick to blame the government. Well done Club Opium keep us entertained and don't listen to idiocracy

To the person so quick to judge what is clearly a fun, lively party, which thy obviously didnt attend, and immediately diss it, an then go so far as to blame it on "a certain class of people" and ex pats, I really hope for your sake that you aren't judged and sentenced by everyone you meet in the same way. We are one world, with many different cultures. As long as people are having fun and not fighting then lets celebrate people havin a good time.
