one nipped my left fender as I was going around the roundabout to to east..he cut in front of me, carried on and at the light by the Moorings, he ran the red light and was out of sight...no helmet, sandals, and shorts....unbelievable.

Several times a day, every day I am almost in an incident with the scooter riders (but for God's grace). They don't feel that the rules of the road applies to them. The cut in front of vehicles around corners, and anywhere they feel like. When they do overtake, they do so by zooming immediately in front or on the side of cars.
I don't know the details for this particular accident and I don't wish bad on anybody. I take the blog however, to appeal to scooter drivers to take it easy and have a love for self and stop trying to get people in trouble

"I don't know the details for this particular accident and I don't wish bad on anybody." That's very kind of you. When it comes to these scooter riders though, I actually do. I wish to witness one of them get knocked asunder for the foolishness they do in traffic. I too have almost hit SEVERAL of them for bobbing and weaving through moving vehicles! It's something I really have to pray about because it's not normal for me to wish harm on people and I know God is not pleased.

I always say to him, "slow up man and wear a helmet". He says "those other riders don't have the driving skills I have", and here we are. SMH SMH

His driving skills can't help him with blood pouring out of his ear sounds a little gross but that is reality when you don't wear a helmet. Any how all the best to the young lad

That driver must be quite shaken! She probably never experienced such a thing in her life. Imagine her recounting this to her family back home.

So I am trying to work out the image in the article above. As long as I stare at it, I can't make it look anything other than a man lying in the middle of the road, having obviously been involved in an accident, with 4 adults standing around (actually one relaxing against the side of a parked car) doing absolutely nothing. Now maybe the 1st Aiders are just out of shot by the guys feet, but somehow I suspect not. WTF - do we have any first aiders on this island???

And yeah he is undoubtedly an idiot for driving a bike with no helmet - but he is injured guys!!!!

Who don't hear will feel. Accidents will happen but follow the rules of the road and wear the necessary gears in order to minimize injuries.

@ lover boy, you are ignorant and immature. The way you talk, you are more of a danger to us than the man on the bike. What a stupid thing to say.

It's about government putting in a law about wearing helmets or be fined...it's also for law enforcement to not be afraid and ticket these riders when law is in place, Riders also need to think of self and other drivers and the consequences both may face in an accident.

Its only a matter of time, with NHI in place government will soon feel the burden on the health system financially ,being placed by those scooter riders. I don't mean to stereo type them but the majority of them do ride carelessly with no regards to their own health and safety fearless the pedestrians and motoring public.

I have absolutely no sympathy for these guys. They are absolute idiots. And to make matters worse, the Police do NOTHING to curb the nonsense on our roads. These guys don't wear helmets and they ride like they have no sense... This place is just OUT OF CONTROL...

I take exception to your comments. Indeed "some" riders behave like idiots, but my son does not. He wears a helmet and rides sensibly and courteously at all times. His scooter is strictly for the purpose of inexpensive transportation.

I agree that the police seem to do nothing about the riders who weave in and out of traffic, speed, pass on corners, etc. and who do not wear helmets. It seems as though the police are waiting for natural selection https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_selection to do their work for them through the process of elimination.

I do wish the young man well and pray for a speedy recovery.

Mother, you are right, I should not use blanket statements. Most, not all. But that's my thing, if a law abiding rider was hit by a car, I would wish him the best. But 99% of those that I see are not wearing helmets, running red lights, speeding like bats out of hell or passing cars in the most ridiculous situations (around corners & when you stop to let another car turn or pedestrians on a cross walk). And I am suppose to feel sorry for them and even wish them a speedy recovery?? For what, so they can come back to do the same nonsense?? I am convinced that the Police are waiting for natural selection as you said. There is no other logical answer..... This society is too casual about people not doing their jobs. I am not saying chase them but certainly you know who they are (because they rarely wear helmets), just roll up on them when they are parked and give them a fine.... It's really not that difficult.

It's not. About wearing helmets or not they need to stop riding through the place like some fools trying to prove what I don't know. These riders look like they haven't learn a lesson from what happened in the past besides it looks like they don't want there life they rather look cool than wear a helmet

It would be a good idea for all scooter operators to have a mandatory visit to an injured one just after or a year after...the duration of impact from the accident is, sometimes, a life time, or no life time.

2 of these thugs ran red lights today , 2/2/16 near the Moorings, no helmets and absolutely no regard for other drivers or the law of the land.Tortola roads are becoming lawless, the police need to patrol with an iron fist to stop this from becoming out of control. Tourist will not come here if they feel unsafe, there are lots of other beautiful places to visit that are safe for drivers.

shame on some of these comments. How can you say who don't hear will feel and other ignorant things . oh please. The information arriving to the accident hasn't been released in this article and some are done assuming he is wrong because he is a scooter man. Not condoning his actions for not wearing a helmet. but a mother's child is in the hospital. Oh gosh man some of you will only feel when it comes to your sons and daughters. and my condolences to the woman that had to experience this

oh wow a next one, why am i not surprised, i guess the reason these guys dont wear helmet is cause they have no brains to protect so if the fall and get hit that is their problem

the police need to do a better job on this

give them a high fine for this or take away their license or something

they need to be punished hard, cause when you hit one of them the public is quick to blame the driver, they wont blame the rider, these riders are the ones causing all the accidents
