ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Drivers on the main island of Tortola risk being towed at owners own expense, if they park in Road Town on the waterfront in a recently reserved parking spot for the Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority Claude Skelton-Cline.

The reserved parking spot is located close to the ferry dock building on the water front.

Mr. Skelton-Cline a former National Democratic Party candidate, who unsuccessfully contested the second district seat held by Honourable J. Alvin Christopher, was appointed to the post of Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority in December 2012.

While the former Managing Director, Vincent ‘Old Father’ O’Neal, had a reserved parking spot at his office building in Port Purcell this is the first time that a reserved parking spot has been created for the post outside of Port Purcell on Tortola.

When contacted by this news site about the need for a reserved parking spot for him in the middle of Road Town he offered no comment as he did not see a problem with the issue.

There is also another reserved parking spot in the same area for the Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool.

The cost of erecting the two signs is not immediately known.

Skelton-Cline was under fire recently when a pro-government news site BVI Platinum reported that the Board had tried to alter his pay package and increase his allowances.  In response to that article, Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Vanterpool who has the portfolio of the Ports came out in opposition to the Board’s recommendation and announced he will not take the proposal to Cabinet.

Deputy Managing Director post to be filled

Meanwhile, the BVI Ports Authority is in the process of filling the post of Deputy Managing Director. Interviews were conducted last week. Persons interviewed included Cane Garden Bay businessman Alfred ‘Al’ Henley and former Ministry of Finance Policy Analyst II, Ms Jenifer C. O'Neal.

It is unclear at this point who the Board will recommend to Cabinet. This news site will be the first to accurately bring you the details on this post, once the information becomes available.

Where is the man of God? People are so ignorant i swear! Your very ideal of God is what makes it so easy for people to pull the wool over your eyes…We live in a community of nepotism, the religion he subscribes to is just one more attribute they use to classify and subjugate people. He is affiliated with the in government so he got a high paying job on the strength of that, nothing to do with what he deserves. A man of any other religious persuasion would be properly chastised for some of the latest happenings with this man in his official capacity, but his character on a hole is shielded by his so called faith….and that is the real illusion here, that those people are any different from anyone else of any other belief!! That is why we will never change either; we care very little about the character of the people we put in place to run this country. In fact, all one has to do is claim to be a part of the Christian movement and that suffices as a character reference that cannot/will not be refuted by the people who blindly follow the same folly!

@ You know what if any other BVI Islander was to get this position all of you no minds will still be on here blogging nonsense. But because his name is S-C all you have him to kill. I am pretty sure he didn't ask for a parking spot. All the ministers of government have their designated parking spots. You go to any trust company around here and all the managers or what have you have their parking spots so what is the big deal. The first person to bring a defamation of character lawsuit then people will stop. that is why tortola will never be the same.

You idiot so you are suggesting that because he is head of ports he must have a parking spot reserved at all ports of entry? For god sake boss the Premier is for the entire county and he does not even have a spot at west end when he is departing...go figure fool

The premier has a reserved parking space at the Central Administration complex. The spot is relevant to the post. There is nothing idiotic about that. Open your small minds. It comes with the territory. You all are just angry because of his history in the news and in politics. Wrong is wrong, right is right... and there is nothing wrong with the Director of the Ports authority having his own parking space. Don't be petty.

          • wow (25/03/2013, 09:36) Like (4) Dislike (0) Reply
I think you are missing the point yes he has a parking spot reserved at the port where he actually sits on a daily basis. What persons concerns might be is why is there a need for him to have a spot in town reserved for him, how often is he actually at the port in town to really utilize the space that is reserved for him.
            • Always Watching (25/03/2013, 13:45) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
His is never at the port in town. He barely even comes to Port Purcell for more than an hour or so each day.

It is my understanding that if one holds a position that warrants them to be in an area, then a parking space designated for the individual is the norm. As was said before, all this argument nd stuff just PETTY.

so these two feathering their own nests. A deputy director is obvious because that appointment will have to have the experience with the job the director is lacking. He was only put in place (with perks) to be the "yes man" for the Pier Park cruise ship fantasy/ entertainment centre which has nothing to do with educating visitors about BVI.

It is so sad to see and hear how the NDP claim on the campaing trail that there were no money in the treasury but now you see contracts giving left right and center where not to be giving. It a good to run on the NDP ticket for everyone that runs or pretend to of another party other than the VIP gets a hefty jod under this present administration. Why do port dir. needs a parking spot at Road Town ferry terminal when there is no parking already for picking up passengers/cargo. Hear again they turn around and give Hon. Penn his job back at FSC collecting aprox. $85,000 per yr. while backbenchers already making close $80,000 and others not having enought to survive. When you hear about wolf in sheep clothing look at this administration. (Time lnger than Tyne).

Everyone knew about Claud before this Government was elected, including the Governor, Dr. Smith and his whole Cabinet. His dealings with the Brown Boomer was on frount page for every one tto see. Yet he was given a $100,000 dollar consultancy job by Mark in an area which was totally foreign to him. Before that contract expired he was appointed to his present position with a base salary of over a $105,000 dollars. Before the ink was dried he demanded an increase of $12,000 dollars and had it not been for the girl who spilled the beans, it would have been a matter of fact. Again Ralph needs to call for information on this man's current expenditure which cannot be refused. But will he. This can only be described as robbery with a warrant.

The country can not move forward on negativity alone. Perhaps you all need to consider investigating the good works of Mr . Cline.

Why does the NDP continue to make themselves look bad, to pander and satisfy some of their greedy, selfish, narcissistic supporters? Claude don't give a damn about this country, he just has his hands out to take what ever he can get. Dr. Smith I don't know what you want your legacy to be, but it is obvious you are not doing much to avoid being inducted in the Hall Of Lame. You are ultimately responsible for the actions of all your ministers, so get a grip on your cabinet. They are running wild out of control. What the HELL wrong with you, are you sleeping?

What's the noise about a parking space in a place where he has authority of . Stupes man you all just stop it. If you know how hard it is to go down town AND can't find a parking . Let the man and his space. We have this mentality That if some one was in a position for 20 years and didn't see the use for something , the person coming after shouldn't have it. Different times and circumstances , why would the Premire need a special parking ? how much times does he go there. I think that the Commissioner of Customs should also have a parking allotted to him. Good reporting Vino thou.
