Miss BVI hopefuls breeze 1st test

They stood tall before a filled audience as they made their presentations in the BVI Promotional segment where they had the task of showcasing the Virgin Islands in a fashion that sells best. Then there was the business attire segment which presented them in their look that would see them facing the most challenging aspect of the competition – intellect.
The ladies vying for Miss BVI – Contestant #1 Doneisha D. Maduro Findlay, #2 Tecora Morgan, #3 Jaynene Lewis, #4 Aribella Parsons, and #5 Leah Johnney and as expected they all showed up with their crowd of supporters.
Some things are common when women hit the stage in a pageant among them are the little slips of the heel and the shaking legs as nervousness steps in. That was not the case of last night’s competition but rather there were the noticeable stuttering and fumbling and in some cases persons forgetting bits of the lines and in other cases rumbling through trying to get their point over in the question and answer segment.
The audience can be credited as being fairly nice as there were no boos heard but some rumbles of disappointment at various stages but at the end of each performance or presentation they were sure to send the young ladies off with loud rounds of applause, saying, “at least you tried” or “Yea that was excellent”.
Interesting was the BVI promotional segment. Contestant #1 Doneisha D. Maduro Findlay though very lengthy for a piece that was allotted a total of five minutes, one for preparation and four for presentation, was no doubt the favourite. In a very entertaining way she sold the Virgin Islands (VI) as the number one destination for financial services investment to Hong Kong and when she was done there, she sent the message that the next place to be aimed for should be Africa.
Contestant #2 Tecora Morgan was the little mermaid who constantly disobeyed her father the king of the undersea, swam up to the shores to learn more of the outside world and ended up being able to read to the audience bits of the tourism values of some key islands. Her pitch was very low and the constant humming and feedback of her microphone was of no help.
Contestant #3 Jaynene Lewis used modern day technology to sell the VI with her version of ‘BVI Tourism App’.
Contestant #4 Aribella Parsons was BVI Culture Woman who showed how women have now entered the taxi business and how good Culture Woman was at that, taking her tourists customers to a new destination in the VI on every visit. She was a member of the West End Taxi Association.
Contestant #5 Leah Johnney ended the segment with some humour and fun as the anchorwoman for the television tourism show WU Channel 5 News. She took reports of her two correspondents who gave live reports from various destinations across the VI and like them she too quit her job and headed to the VI for a long vacation.
The Intelligence segment spoke for itself as the quiz mistresses did their best at making the young ladies comfortable before posing two questions to them. They all answered comfortably with the exception of contestant #5 who seemed to have lost her way in the final question.
There was some entertainment during the competition among them being B’More and DJ Dre who did an awesome job at adding some life to the crowd. Those present were also introduced to the contestants for the first Miss Junior BVI pageant set for July 27, 2014.
