Millennial Votes Matter!

The late Mahatma K. Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. However, I am here today to tell you, “Be a part of the change you wish to see in the Virgin Islands”. Our votes matter, yes, the millennial votes matter!

Over the last few years, we have seen the Virgin Islands face a barrage of issues. Issues today that will inevitably have a direct effect on the future of tomorrow.

The young people, the millennials, we have seen our country at its worst, even as our elders speak of their worst. We have seen unemployment rates increase tremendously, vast corruption such as the $7.2M gone missing; $40M overrun; $31M on bad infrastructure work; the $1.6M Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) wall; our overlooked sewage system; the power struggle to be Commander-in-chief; victimization; limited educational opportunities; unbalance healthcare system; inconsistent judicial system; unequipped Police and Fire Officers in addition to the overlooked legislation.

Furthermore, the big questions among us the millennials remains, what are we voting for? Why should we go out to vote or even get registered? My fellow millennials, I believe that there is still hope, more so now, we are the brave bunch; we are the voice of the voiceless; we are the ones that have to lead the way to bring out the change we wish to see in the Virgin Islands.

This election is not about which party, which movement or group you are with. Rather, this election is about making your votes matter. I urge my fellow millennial to get registered, get involved, make your votes matter and be a part of the change you wish to see in the Virgin Islands.

This election, please remember we are voting to protect our democracy for an increase in minimum wage; job opportunities; repeal NHI; better infrastructure; accountability and transparency; better sewage systems; educational opportunities; judicial system reform and a constitutional repeal.

We are the future of tomorrow!
