ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- What can certainly be deemed as an indication that X Factor USA winner Melanie Amaro has not forgotten the Virgin Islands or where she come from, the superstar recently made a monetary donation to her former school- Althea Scatliffe Primary.

A cheque for $1000 was made to the music department of the school by Mrs. Deborah Sylvester Amaro on Melanie’s behalf.

Melanie Amaro graduated from the Althea Scatliffe Primary School’s class of 2005, according to Principal Marieta Flax-Headley.

Amaro, who rose to stardom after winning the X Factor USA on December 22, 2011, also reportedly wishes to return to the Virgin Islands (VI) to personally thank the people who supported her during her quest to win.

This is according to her mother, who along with her husband Hipolito Amaro, was in the Virgin Islands for the weekend.

Mrs Amaro, in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, had said she could not say exactly when Melanie would come to the Virgin Islands as she is currently very busy doing recordings but knows her daughter desires to come to personally express her appreciation to all the people of the VI, who supported her.

“I know that she wants to be able to come back to personally thank the people here for voting for her, holding her in high esteem and going to the multi-purpose complex and holding that event they had for her. I know she wants to come back and do something but right now we can’t tell you when it’s going to happen but it will happen,” Mrs. Amaro said.

For winning the X Factor, Melanie, who was born in Florida but spent a number of her childhood years in the Virgin Islands, also won a $5M recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Sony Music-owned record label SyCo and the chance to perform a Pepsi Commercial at this year’s Super Bowl, which she did with the legendary Elton John.

Now that is a class act. Watch all the naysayers comments wondering why she couldn't donate more. I'll cut them off now and ask how much each of them has donated to their former primary or high school?

Plus, she does not get all the money at once--it's over a 5 yr period from what I understand. Remember, she is 19 yrs old herself. $1000 is a lot of money for a kid her age!!!!
