VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Maria Mays and Reuben J. A. Stoby completed a clean sweep of the Dive BVI 10K Series when the second and final leg was run on Saturday May 13, 2017.

The final race took runners through the second half of the Virgin Gorda Half Marathon scheduled for May 27, 2017 and saw runners making their way from in front of Scotiabank to Copper Mine Point and The Baths before returning to the starting point for the finish.

Stoby and Julius Farley broke away from the pack after the second mile before Stoby seized his opportunity with a mile to go and won in 42:57. Farley was second in 43:14 and Jeremy Zuber third in 47:35.

Maria Mays again ran unchallenged and clocked 50:00 for her second successive 10K win in the Women’s Division.

Karen Fraser was second in 53:43 while Sarah Harkness took third in 56:32.

Road runners are now tapering for what could be the final Virgin Gorda Half Marathon.

    The real winner on the day was that dude from Tortola who finished 6th. I heard he got a really short haircut a couple of days before the race just to make himself more aerodynamic and to sweat less. The BVI is lucky to have dedicated athletes of his caliber participating. If he runs in the half marathon then I'm going to ask him for a selfie.
