MANAGUA, Nicaragua- Miss Teen BVI Maya Z.V. Marcellin made history at the Teen Universe International Pageant, which took place in Nicaragua on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío.

Marcellin made it to the Top 15 in a field of 23 contestants from countries across the world.

She also took the award for Best National Costume at an international pageant.

Best National Costume

Maya National Costume represented Eileene Parsons' BVI Heritage Dancers, and this marks the first time a Virgin Islander has won Best National Costume at an international pageant.

According to a Facebook post by Miss Teen British Virgin Islands Pageant, "This brings recognition to our British Virgin Islands. With a field of contestants from 23 countries, Maya National Costume represented Eileene Parsons' BVI Heritage Dancers and won first prize. Wow, wow wow! BVIslanders be proud!’’

It was just in December 2025 that Miss Teen Virgin Islands Maya Zareiah Venice Marcellin won the prestigious title of Miss Caribbean Talented Teen. It was the first Miss Caribbean Talented Teen crown for the Virgin Islands.

The Teen Universe International Pageant is a global beauty competition celebrating teenage girls from all corners of the world.

Atleast one of your parents and grandparents should be born in the VI for you to be allowed to run for these pageants

That mindset is what is keeping us down. Who you think should represent don't place anywhere.

Why are there so many antagonists on here? The young lady despite knowing her parents are not from here but born here, put herself out there to represent the Territory and put it on the "map" so to speak, yet you all maliciously bringing up where she is from or her parents. Who from here that fit the bill of "indigenous" that were qualified to go and represent us? WHO??? None. What if the young lady had gone and represented the country of her parents? What would you keyboard assassins have said? O she is so ungrateful. She got raised and educated by the BVI and turned her ungrateful back on us to go and represent down island. Them down island people so ungrateful and nasty."

I am so fed up of this hate and hypocrisy. Congratulate the young lady for her achievement and leave the hate. We run behind the US and UK passport and when the expats who give their lives to this place as law abiding decent people apply for status, we "murder" them on the keyboard and the sad thing is you smile with them, they give you ride in their cars, they give you money, they do favors for you.
    Sad, sad, sad.

The question is why do we allow these few Illiterate. naive, uneducated racial Virgin Islanders (because they are quite a few) to speak on the behalf of the territory? This young lady carried the weight of an entire nation on her shoulders, and this is the thanks? We should be ashamed of ourselves.
