Marizsta A. Sergeant who topped VI’s first police recruit course dies

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The female officer, who had the distinction of emerging as the best student of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Inaugural Police Recruit Training Programme, has died.

Police Constable No. 283 Marizsta A. Sergeant passed away in Puerto Rico on March 10, 2020, according to the RVIPF in a press release today, Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

“Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force are mourning the loss of one of their own,” the RVIPF said.

One of the first officers to be trained locally

Constable Sergeant was enlisted in the RVIPF on August 30, 2013 as an Auxiliary Police Officer and later transferred over to Police Constable on February 16, 2015.

She was a member of Cohort 1, the first set of officers to be locally trained.

Officer of excellence

During the Inaugural Police Recruit Training’s Completion Exercise & Passing Out Parade at the lawns of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay on July 30, 2015, Constable Sergeant was awarded Best Recruit and copped the Burke’s Garage Award for Best at Police Subjects, Vernon E. Malone Award for Best Recruit, President’s Award for Excellence to the Best Recruit, and an award for Best Recruit at Baton Honour.

During her tenure in the RVIPF, Sergeant worked at the East End, Road Town and Virgin Gorda Police Stations.
