CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI – With a long weekend ahead and the void created by the absence of Music Fest, local promoters have organised a weekend of 'Mardi Gras' celebration which will feature, among other international artistes, Popcaan of Jamaica.

“No Music Fest? No worries! Mardi Gras Fest will ensure that your Memorial Day Weekend is one you won’t forget,” said Ms Jehree Clarke, one of the coordinators of the event.

She said tomorrow May 22, 2015 Cane Garden Bay will come alive with lights, beads, masks and glow necklaces for the Carib Beer Mardi Gras Bar Hop Party. Participating bars include Myett’s, Elm’s, Paradise Club, Paradise Road Side Bar, Rhymer’s, and ‘The Wedding’ bar will be providing entertainment free of charge to create the Carib Beer Mardi Gras Bar Hop scene with Carib Beer specials and Mardi Gras cocktails all night.

Popcaan to pop it!

“Then the entertainment continues with the Mardi Gras Concert featuring international Dancehall artist Popcaan bringing you hits like 'Only Man She Want', 'Party Shot', 'Everything Nice', 'Clean', 'Ah Mi Baby Dat', 'Party Non-stop', 'Naughty Girl', 'Where We Come From', 'Fall In Love' and 'Only Jah Knows'."

According to Ms Clarke, they have decided to fill the night with local entertainment with performances by Ah Milli Soundz, DJ Kuga, local rapper NJAR, up and coming band OMG and reigning Road March Champs VIBE. Also added to the entertainment line-up is the Award-winning artiste Jon Gazi of the USVI.

“The action starts at 8pm at Myett’s Beachfront where food will be available and it will be a true Mardi Gras style party with beads, masks, and glow necklaces and we’re encouraging everyone to dress relaxed in casual beach/resort wear."

To alleviate the parking issues, the team has organised a Mardi Gras Party Bus leaving the BVI Taxi Stand every half an hour to Cane Garden Bay. “As a bonus, once you take the shuttle, you will be guaranteed the ticket price for the event.”

An 'unforgettable weekend'

Ms Clarke, who is also the Marketing Director of Five Star Promotions, said “It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend, Popcaan is so excited to come to the British Virgin Islands. We are working with a very reputable agent in Jamaica who will personally deliver the artiste to us.“

Popcaan will be arriving in the territory on Friday May 22, 2015 and will be making appearances at practically every bar in Road Town and at the Carib Beer Mardi Gras Bar Hop Party so that the public can meet and greet him.

She also added, “We would like to thank Myett’s for partnering with us and allowing us to use their beachfront which allows the event to be more accommodating. The entrance will be through Myett’s and the bars will also be operated by Myett’s. We would like to give a special thank you to our title sponsor, Caribbean Cellars in conjunction with Carib Beer, DonQ and Patron, as well as the BVI Tourist Board, Travel Wize Ltd, Island Style BVI and Virgin Islands News Online.

Tickets for Mardi Gras Fest can be purchased at Hazem’s and Bolo’s or by calling (284) 540-3000.
