Many stranded as ferry to JVD encounters mechanical failure

WEST END, Tortola, VI- Persons heading to Jost Van Dyke from Tortola to ring in the New Year have been stranded the ferry scheduled to depart the West End Terminal at 3:30 P.M. today, December 31, 2016 encountered mechanical difficulties.

Among the many stranded at the ferry terminal are musicians and other entertainers scheduled to perform at Foxy's, which is well known to host one of the best Old Year's Night shows.

The Bomber Challenger is the largest ferry plying the route between Jost Van Dyke and Tortola.

The delay has also placed the 6:00 P.M. scheduled departure from Tortola to Jost Van Dyke in jeopardy.

It is reported that many persons have already changed their minds to go to Jost Van Dyke in light of the current situation.

It is not clear at this time what other transportation arrangements may be put in place.

Our newsroom was subsequently told that the problem was rectified and the ferry service resumed.

    Wow. Wow. Greediness is crippling the BVI. This is their biggest two days...everything should already been checked and working perfectly.. What a shame ..Greediness don't understand that you have to spend to get... I wonder what their excuse will be?

      Wow. All you can say is "greediness". You must be jealous. If the other ferry services spent money to keep their boats running as well as New Horizon and ON SCHEDULE, there would be no need for an airport. You just sound like an angry moo moo

        another reason to invest in ferries. Planes don't have the flexibility ferries do, and they can bring in more people than planes IF they are maintained and schedules MATCH the air flights at STT. No running to Red Hook to try and catch it. This is total negligence for regular people and potential tourists.

    Hope they get it sort out properly and soon. So the businesses in JVD. Don't made to suffer. I also hope that the people can get back over after the party..Sad! Careless! Then again God knows best.

    Take this as a sign. Instead of going partying, find the closest church and give God praises for seeing us through the year. The bible states "Why gain the world and lose your soul?" People the coming of the Lord is drawing closer, seek Him, while He may be found.

      The Churches benefit most from old years. Collection like crazy. What do they give back to the community..Going to church ain making no difference...Year to year the place getting worse.

    @Queen Sheba some may target you for your comment but that's another indigenous culture that is going down the ghut. We locals and other residents used to go to church first and after a little get together here and there. Nothing like we have now..shootings and violence , sit and talk all morning then get bush tea and johnney cakes and go home so tired you don't even body to take off your clothes It was clean fun not something that will be embraced today.

    Usual lack of preventive maintenance, a concept relatively few seem to know of here in the BVIs. Could have happened any other day, and probably will happen again.

    They once had big showoff signs on their boats saying CATERPILLAR DIESEL POWER. Come on now. These boats are old as hell. They should not be meant to be modified for speeding, just to boast that you have the fastest ferry in the BVI. There are many lives at stake on these ferry boats, just a single boatload of passengers alone.
    I have been on the BOMBA CHALLENGER fully loaded with passengers. Some time ago. They had the boat at speeds so high, that they blew one engine.
    These people need to operate a boat on a mature and professional manner.

    Why don't you go and learn your ancestors history instead of a history that was given to your ancestors by beating them. Chritianity has brainwashed you...wake up. All you want to tell people to go to church and what the Bible says? How many of you are really living by the bible? Just your comments says that you all are judgemental. I guess that is what your bible taught you to be. Next to every church on this island has a bar. While all you wives in church, all you husbands in the bar. Some of all you does be seen late at nights, in places all you claim all you not going. Let people celebrate this pagan holiday how they want. A set of hypocritical ignorance. While I do not suggest that we force any religion down a person's throat it is people like you that scare the daylight out of me talking without any solution. I will live any day with hypocrites , white men religion than with thieves, murderers, robbers and probably people like you. Your names says a lot about you.
