CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI — A St Thomas man who was shot multiple times about the body on Thursday night, February 2, 2017 survived the ordeal but said he had no recollection of what actually happened, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced on February 3, 2017.

The Consortium learned of the incident a few hours after it occurred.

According to Ms Freeman, citing a police report, at about 8:35 PM Thursday, an off-duty officer reported that shots were being fired in the area between the Nisky Center and Crown Mountain intersection. A suspicious vehicle was reported leaving the area headed up Crown Mountain at a high rate of speed, Ms Freeman said. Shortly after, the 911 emergency call center reported that a male gunshot victim was receiving treatment at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

Officers then traveled to the hospital and made contact with a black male, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body. The male was treated by the on-duty emergency room physician and remains in the hospital, according to Ms Freeman. The injured male told police during questioning that he did not remember anything that occurred during the shooting.

The VIPD is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of those suspected of criminal activity to call the VIPD at (340) 774-2211, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 714-9801, or Crime Stoppers USVI, where you tip may lead to a payday worth thousands.
