Man killed in BVI during hurricane Irma yet to be identified

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A man who was discovered dead in the area of The Moorings on Wickhams Cay II, Tortola following the passage of Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017 is yet to be positively identified.

This is according to Police Commissioner Michael Matthews on September 22, 2017.

The  category 5 hurricane Irma claimed 5 lives, according to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

And according to Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton, the unidentified man is Caucasian, between the ages of 60 and 70, medium built, 5'7 to 5'8 and 160lbs.

"He had a long blond beard and hair and was wearing blue coveralls like that of a marine engineer when he was found."

Ms Drayton further told this news site that the body was discovered on the rocks near the harbour entrance to the Moorings Mariner on Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2017, the day after Irma hit.

The monster hurricane ripped through the Virgin Islands, destroying homes, businesses and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the RVIPF wishes to notify the public that its 911 emergency number is down; however, persons can contact the police via the numbers provided below:

Digicel: 344 1818, 1822, 1977; FLOW: 545-4866; CCT: 468-9001, 468-9000. Use 284 before the numbers if calling from outside of the Virgin Islands.

Persons are encouraged if they don't get through in the first attempts to keep trying.

    Can you confirm this man is British like listed below? There is a picture of a man missing from STJ that can be submitted to proper authorities for comparison if someone could send me the email/webpage to do so
