Malone powers Cedar School to Victory!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Kirsten Malone served up no fewer than nine aces on Saturday February 25, 2012 as Cedar International School beat the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams two sets to one in the “B” Division of the BVI Volleyball Association Power League.

Having won the first set 25-22, Cedar was then pegged back by the determined Rams 20-25 in the second, but Cedar held their nerve to win the third and deciding set 15-13 to claim victory.

Sheronda Pickering was the pick of the Rams players with 2 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces.

In other matches over the weekend, Phoenix Blue defeated Phoenix Red in a thrilling five set encounter 12-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11 that lasted ninety minutes. Jackie Weeks led the Blues with 11 kills, 3 digs and 3 aces. Yessica Valencia added 9 kills, 11 digs, 6 aces and Celine Alphonso had 7 kills, 5 digs, 3 aces.

For the Reds, Sabinah Clement recorded 7 kills, 6 blocks, 3 digs and 2 aces. Henrietta Alexander scored 6 kills, 1 block and 2 digs whilst Tyalia Nibbs had 6 kills, 4 digs, 10 aces.

Not to be outdone, the Men’s team of Just Dream defeated the Future in another five set thriller. The Future never gave up, despite playing catch up for the entire game. The final score was 25-16, 26-28, 25-17, 25-27, 15-7.

For the Dream, Canice Marquise had 16 kills and 3 digs, Drexel Glasgow scored 9 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces. Travis Jack finished with 9 kills and 6 blocks. The Future was kept in the game by Andre Brathwaite’s 15 kills, 5 digs and 1 ace. Clyde Potter Jr. added 14 kills, 6 digs and Kevon Ceasar had 8 kills and 4 digs.

On Saturday night, the Legends defeated Phoenix Black over four sets in 83 minutes by a final score line of 25-8, 25-19, 23-25, 25-10.

The Legends was led by Lynele Gumbs who had 10 kills, 11 digs, 4 aces; Debbie Maduro recorded 7 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs, 1 ace and Melissa Amey had 7 kills, 1 block, 2 digs.

Lohanny Wheatley of Phoenix Black scored 4 kills 10 digs, 2 aces and Jamacye Mason: 4 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs.

The Future then bounced back from the earlier defeat by recording a four set win against Raw Power, 25-20, 26-28, 25-22, 28-18. Potter Jr. led with 17 kills, 1 block, 2 digs, Cedric Thomas made 15 kills with 5 blocks and 1 dig. Andre Braithwaite finished with 10 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces.

For Raw Power, Leon Smith had 11 kills, 3 digs; Dion Vanterpool 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs and Natalio Wheatley 1 kill, 7 blocks and 2 digs.

On Sunday, Raw Power defeated Phoenix Black in straight sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-7, led by Valina Brathwaite’s 7 kills, 4 digs and 2 aces. Henrietta Telemaque added 3 kills 2 digs 2 aces. For Phoenix Black Jamacye Mason had 2 kills and Marcia Stoutt 1 kill and 2 digs.

The Reds and Blues of Phoenix then clashed again with the Reds rising from the ashes to secure victory 25-12, 17-25, 28-26, 25-20. Tyalia Nibbs recording 8 kills, 1 block, 1 dig and 1 ace with Sabinah Clement adding 8 kills, 1 block and a dig.

The Blues was again led by Weekes who scored 10 kills, 1 block, 3 digs and 1 ace, whilst Pickering had 9 kills, 4 blocks and 3 digs. Valencia recorded 8 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs and 1 ace.

The final game of the weekend saw the Terminators gain revenge for their season opening loss to Just Dream with a straight sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25-15, victory in just under an hour.

Damian Creque’s 7 kills, 8 Bbocks, 3 digs and 2 aces the stand out performance along with solid contributions from Neville Brathwaite with 11 kills, 1 block, 5 digs and 4 aces. Denfield Solomon also had 11 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs and 1 ace.

For Just Dream, Marquise had 5 kills and Travis Jack 5 kills, 1 block, 3 digs and 1 ace.
