ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Magistrate Samuel Jack Husbands suspended a driver’s licence belonging to Cane Garden Bay resident Dwight Callwood for six months, after his reckless driving caused a traffic collision in Road Town on January 19, 2018.

Additionally, the magistrate fined the boat captain $200. He has up to October 15, 2019 to pay up or he would spend two days at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut.

Callwood admitted his guilt when he came before the court on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Police prosecutors said on the day in question, Callwood was driving near Flow when the vehicle that preceded him stopped to allow other vehicles to pass.

Unwilling to wait, Callwood overtook the vehicles on the westbound lane but collided with another car.

There was no loss of life or injuries but both vehicles sustained external damages.

The other vehicle’s damage was in the region of $5,000.

Police responded to the accident and Callwood was charged with reckless and negligent driving.

What a reckless decision he made. If cars are stopped, there is a reason for it, but it seems he is too important to wait, so he causes an accident because he didn't want to wait one minute. Now he had to wait way more than one minute. $200 only? It should have been more and jail time should have been more.

If Mr. Callwood's driver's license is suspended for 6 months on land what about his captain's license to drive a boat? Or do we just have to wait until he causes a boat collision for that license to be suspended!
