Luis McKelly charged for murder of Merlin Ceasor
McKelly was initially charged for manslaughter but today, September 16, 2016, the prosecution had the charge amended to murder when the matter was called in the Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant is to return to court on December 7, 2016 for paper committal.
Asking permission to speak, Mr McKelly expressed condolences to the family of the victim as he said he was unable to attend the funeral of Ceasor.
Ceasor reportedly died of injuries to the head caused by blunt force trauma.
This was revealed in the Magistrate's Court on June 17, 2016 following an autopsy done on June 11, 2016.
“The cause of death has been determined as head injuries as a result of multiple blunt force trauma mainly to the right side of the head resulting in extensive skull fractures, brain damage and haemorrhage,” said the Police Prosecutor.
Police had said McKelly was found near the body of Ceasor after police received an anonymous call about a body in Wickham’s Cay and when officers turned up to the scene they saw McKelly sitting near the body of Ceasor which was soiled with mud and bloodied.
According to the Police, McKelly appeared muddied and soiled also and seemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The court heard that McKelly said he was only helping his friend Ceasor out of the water and he could not remember what had transpired as he had consumed two bottles of Brugal rum.
