Local Tiffany R. Scatliffe-Esprit appointed DPP

-Makes history as first Virgin Islander to hold post in the territory

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Former Principal Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Tiffany R. Scatliffe-Esprit has been appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on May 5, 2020, after acting in the role since December 14, 2019.

Her appointment took effect from the date of appointment and she is now the first local to hold the position of DPP in the Territory.

Virgin Islands News Online had accurately reported on October 8, 2019, that Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and United Kingdom (UK) national, Kim Hollis QC, had tendered her resignation and that her final day on the job would be December 13, 2019. 

According to a release from the Government Information Service, the appointment of Mrs Scatliffe-Esprit as DPP was made by His Excellency the Governor, Augustus J.U. Jaspert in accordance with section 95 of the Virgin Islands Constitution, and acting in accordance with the advice of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.

Work Experience & Qualification 

Mrs Scatliffe-Esprit was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2005 and the Bar in the Virgin Islands in 2006. She was inducted into the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2015 and received her Master of Law from the University of Liverpool 2017.

She received a Diploma in Human Resources Management, Professional Certificate in Human Resources Management and Diploma in Workforce Management and Development from Michigan State University in April 2019.

The DPP serves as the principal prosecutor in the Virgin Islands as established by the Constitution and has the overall responsibility for all aspects of criminal proceedings and management of the day-to-day administration and activities of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

    Another Well deserved appointment. Congratulation DPP Scatliffe-Esprit. You have earned this position through hard work and dedication. Your qualification speaks for itself. In your position, you may have to make decisions that would impact people of all works of life including very close acquaintances or even persons who are related to you. Be fair and fearless. Let the facts and concrete evidence be the only force that governs your decisions all legal matters that comes before you. Maintain a good working relationship with your staff and other Legal Agencies including the A.G. Office. Congratulations once again.

    Under the leadership of the former DPP from the UK many times during various court Proceedings that department was chastise by the presiding magistrate and the records are there but as usual she was white so that was swept under the rug
