ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park which sits in the heart of Road Town, Tortola was last evening Friday, January 17, 2020, transformed beyond one's imagination for the 75th birthday party celebration for one of the territory's female freedoms fighters.
Hailed as one of the Virgin Islands (VI) most astute entrepreneurs, along with being one of the most influential women currently in the Territory, and a fighter for the Wickhams Cay lands, Mrs Patsy C. Lake celebrated her 75th birthday anniversary with a lavish, no expense spared party.
It was a who’s who?
At the same park that has a plaque where her name is listed, a massive tent was erected with chairs and fully decorated in red and with the food and drinks flowing. In attendance were her family, including her two children Alex V. Lake and Suzanne K. Lake-Rymer, and others who flew in from overseas.
The current political class was also in attendance including Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) (also a family member) and First Lady Mrs Shelia E. Fahie–Forbes, Speaker of the House of Assembly Honourable Julian Willock, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Marlon (AL) and Mrs Malone, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Mrs Rymer (daughter of Ms Lake), Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) along with Jr. Minister for Tourism Hon Sharie B. de Castro (AL).
The social class was out & well dressed
There were also former members of the legislature, and civil servants at the gala event including Deputy Governor, David D. Archer Jr. and Mrs Archer, Heads of Departments and the Financial Secretary, Glenroy A. Forbes.
Also in attendance was a large turnout of private sector personalities along with Captain of Industries, the clergy including Bishop of the New Life Baptiste Church at Duff’s Bottom, John I Cline and Government Consultant and Social Commentator, Claude O. Skelton-Cline and Mrs Cline.
The celebration was one that was void of the usual speeches outside of Bishop Cline and Daughter Suzanne but instead was filled with praise and worship led by Minister Stephen Hurd.
There were hundreds in attendance and all decked out for the most part in the red and white theme for the night. Persons were encouraged to record a special video message as they entered the venue before taking individual photos with the woman of the night.
A National Treasure
Ms Lake, one of many in the Positive Action Movement at the forefront in the late 60s fought to retake the Wickhams Cay lands after a bad deal was signed taking it out of the hands of locals for 99 years.
She is currently the Director of the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pair Park and serves on two Statuary Boards. Ms Lake is also a former President of the BVI Horse Owners Association and a former commissioner of the Public Service Commission.
Ms Lake is regarded as a national Shero in the Virgin Islands and is known for her kindness to many in all walks of life.
