Lions Club of Tortola creates history - First Lion to be installed as District Governor
For one year commencing July 1st 2015, these men and women will oversee approximately 45,000 Lions clubs made up of nearly 1.4 million Lions members in 210 countries and geographical areas around the world.
His Lions sub district of 60B includes the areas of the English speaking islands in the Caribbean sea spanning from Grenada in the south to Cayman Islands in the north.
Lions in the district are involved in several service projects, including Diabetes Awareness, feeding & clothing the needy, Promoting Special Needs Awareness; Sight Preservation; Care for the Elderly; Supporting Youth etc.
Lions Clubs International President Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada of Japan during the installation of the District Governors in Honolulu said, “I am confident that these District Governors will be successful in helping to support and guide the Lions clubs in their areas to better serve their communities. The District Governors’ commitment and compassion will help Lions members in their areas to be everyday heroes by creating miracles through service.”
Grant a medical technologist by profession & employed with Medicure Ltd. has been an active member of the Tortola Lions Club for the past 13 years and is the first member to serve in this post in the BVI. Earlier in May 2015 at the 35th Multiple District 60 Convention in Jamaica, he was elected to the post of District Governor Sub District 60B. Prior to this he served as Zone 2A Chairman 2010-11, Region 2 Chairman 2011-12 and Vice District Governor 2013-15. His theme for the year is “Take a stand: Make it right through service”
Among those members serving with him on the 2015-16 District 60B team from the BVI are Maria Vieira – Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer; Vanessa Rymer – Zone 2A Chairperson; Norval Young – Sergeant at Arms, Sean Rose – Associate P.R Chairman, Coralie George – GMT Associate Chairperson & Darryl Flanders – Leo Associate Chairperson.
