ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Lions Club of Tortola recorded its place in history last Saturday, March 2, 2013, when Lion Marvin Grant, MJF, won the nomination at a Regional Meeting in Dominica to serve as 2nd Vice District Governor in District 60B ahead of his St. Thomas, USVI counterpart.

His nomination would be ratified at the upcoming Lions Multiple District 60 Convention in May 2013 in St. Kitts and, once successful, he would serve as District Governor of District 60B in 2015.

According to Grant, this is a major accomplishment for the Club as it has never had someone serving in that capacity. He said it is indeed a privilege and an honour to have won this nomination, thus adding to the club’s history of achievements over the past four decades.

He expressed gratitude to persons who were instrumental in his success, including his mentor Lion Theodore Skeete, a former Region and Zone Chairman, for inspiring him to higher levels; the Lions Club of Tortola for allowing him the opportunity to serve; several persons in the District and his employer Jean Vanterpool and co-workers at Medicure Pharmacy Limited for their encouragement and support.

Lion Grant joined the Lions Club of Tortola in 2002 and prior to reaching this high level of office, served as President and Secretary of that Club on two occasions each, Project Chairman, Public Relations Officer, Board member, Zone Chairman of Zone 2A, Region 2 Chairman, District 60B HIV/Aids Chairman and currently as LCIF Associate Chairman.

District 60B comprises of Lions and Leo clubs from the Cayman Islands in the north to Grenada in the south of the Caribbean Sea.

Lion Grant hails from Guyana, South America and has been living and working in the Territory for more than thirteen years. He also holds the position of President of the Guyanese Association here in the VI.
