‘Letty’ Hodge blasts speculation surrounding Really Uptown
“My problem is that I want to have a certain examination done with him, which is an ultrasound,” Hodge said during the August Tuesday races held earlier this week.
It was widely hoped that Really Uptown, having captured both the VI Triple Crown and Governor’s Cup earlier this year, would have run in the Premier’s Cup which was won by Plotter at the August Tuesday races. Bud White, who has since been put down following an injury, had won the Cup last year.
She explained that due to the fact that there were no available veterinarians in the Virgin Islands, attempts had been made to secure the services of a vet from Puerto Rico but this was not done because of a ‘backlog’.
“I love my animal and I am not going to [race] him because, you see, he’s good, he doesn’t feel anything but because of [the injury] I want an ultrasound done so I could be at ease and know that everything is ok,” she stated.
Hodge said she decided to bring her horse out at the August Tuesday races for the public to see that there was no truth to stories that the horse couldn’t move and had to be put down.
She did not give any indication when the horse would be likely to race again and said this would be determined after the vet does an examination to say how serious the horse’s injury is. “I don’t think it’s nothing to be concerned about but to have a professional opinion or diagnosis, that’s what I’m waiting on,” she added.
“For all of those that are out there speculating… since they have those that like to chatter and they don’t own any horse and put a career ending injury on him, which it’s not, I decided if [they] want to find out, they should go and speak to the person, which is Mr Anson from St Thomas,” she remarked, “apparently he is a vet and an owner.”
The horseowner also confirmed that she will soon be bringing a new mare to the Virgin Islands but did not give any indication as to when it will arrive.
