Land titles given to some Anegadians are “bogus” – Lorie Rymer
Forty residents were given titles on that day. “Most of what the people got is lands that are on sand dunes, swamp lands, and pond lands,” Rymer told Virgin Islands News Online in an interview on Monday, November 15, 2011.
The outspoken businessman was a 9th district candidate in the November 7 General Elections.
Asked what proof he has to back his claim, Rymer disclosed that he visited the island on several occasions and was shown the locations of some of the titleholders’ lands.
“I saw it with my own eyes. So I can say with a degree of certainty that the people of Anegada have lands on sand dunes, swamp lands, pond lands and mangrove swamp,” he emphasised.
Against this backdrop, the former candidate stated that the Town and Country Planning will never give residents permission to build because the lands are worthless.
The titles that were given out were for residential purposes to persons who were deemed eligible by the Anegada Lands Development Advisory Committee or who were descendants of Anegadians.
At a simple ceremony held at the Emile Dunlop Community Centre, former Premier Ralph T O’Neal and former Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Omar Hodge were among several Government officials in attendance.
