‘Lack of funds stalled my basketball court project’- Hon Delores Christopher
Hon Christopher, who many said was marginalised when she was not given the portfolio of Junior Minister for Trade and Investment Promotion, was at the time, May 1, 2017, speaking on NDP Radio on ZBVI 780 AM Radio Station.
The Fifth District Representative, who is one of two females in the House of Assembly, said the Huntums Ghut Basketball Court is an ongoing project in her district. According to her, she was happy that the project got started; however “lack of funds caused a delay, but we are ready to go again…”
Hon Christopher also mentioned that Caribbean Development Bank Projects were on going in Horse Path and she wanted to ensure that other projects slated for her district move “fast.”
However, in a stunning move, Hon Christopher said she was “waiting for the Budget to pass” but it was unclear which Budget she was referring to as the 2017 Appropriation Act of her Government already passed months ago.
Hon O’Neal: Champion of young people?
Meanwhile, another Representative, Dr The Honourable Hubert O’Neal of District Nine, who continues to be under heavy fire for lack of action, claimed he campaigned as a “champion of the young people.”
He also said he has been working to help Virgin Gordians who had been put out of work because of the many hotel closures when he took office, some “400 persons, according to my count”.
He said things are “turning around for Virgin Gorda” as many of the hotels have promised, including Little Dix Bay Resort, to reopen “later this year,” according to Hon O’Neal.
The show was hosted by former Legislator and National Democratic (NDP) Party Spokeswoman Mrs Eleene L. Parsons OBE. She hit the news last year after she wrote a letter to the NDP eleven elected Members, saying that the government was sexist as it was a “man thing” and that the portfolio of Finance should be removed from Premier Dr D. Orlando Smith (AL) and given to Health and Social Development Minister Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), who was also absent from the show last night.
Other 'no shows' were Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7), Junior Minister for Trade and Investment Promotion Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), and Hon Alvera-Maduro-Caines from District Six.
