Khoy Frett, Wilbert Donovan & Suruj Persaud acquitted
The three men appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo this morning when the Magistrate handed down her decision. However for an additional charge operating a vessel without a license Frett was found guilty as charged.
Research has shown that the offense for which Frett was found guilty does not carry a prison sentence but rather a fine. The extent of that fine will be decided and made known on Thursday November 20, 2014 when Frett is scheduled to return for that decision of the Magistrate.
The three were all represented by Attorney at Law Mr Stephen R. Daniels.
The facts of the case indicated that it was on May 18, 2012 officers of the Customs and the Royal Virgin Islands Police force in a joint operation moved on surveillance emanating from the US Virgin Islands and conducted searches of packages brought in by Mr Frett’s courier service when a quantity of drugs was discovered.
As he was testifying during the last hearing of the case Frett had told the court that he had offered to assist the police in trying to trap and catch the person that the parcel was intended for but they refused his cooperation and told him to tell it to the Magistrate as they arrested and charged him.
The men had all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and based on the proceedings led throughout their trial they were all acquitted.
