'Keep putting on' curfews until we get it right - Hon Vanterpool
"I want the Premier and his Ministers and his Cabinet and the rest of the team in this House to understand, let's buckle down and work hard, to make hard decisions to get us through this, and not just get us through... but to get us out of this," he urged.
Working against COVID-19
Hon Vanterpool made the statement during the Seventh Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom, Tortola on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
According to Hon Vanterpool, while it can be acknowledged that the pandemic would not end soon, with hard work the Territory can escape the perils of COVID-19.
"There have been pandemics before, there have been issues before... all kinds of things before, but if we have the faith to believe that we can put our efforts down to come of out of it, we can come out of it," he said.
In rallying support for the efforts of Government, the Fourth District Representative reminded that the fight is not the Premier or the Government's fight, rather, the fight of the people of the Territory for a show of resiliency in dark times.
"Fighting back is about putting our faith in God and believing that he can give us the wisdom and the knowledge to do what is right and what is best for the people that he placed on this earth and the people of this Virgin Islands."
Keep implementing Curfews - Hon Vanterpool
Honourable Vanterpool affirmed his support and encouraged the administration to keep implementing curfews as necessary, "When you come to talk about curfews, Mr Speaker, keep putting them on because we have to get the right discipline to get us through this."
"When you talk about social distancing, you have to get people to understand that you have to," he said, urging the public to adhere to all the COVID-19 prevention measures.
"I want to implore people to understand, it might be a sacrifice over the several weeks because it is not over yet, we are not immune in the Virgin Islands to cases... nobody knows what's coming down the pipe."
4th COVID-19 case confirmed
Just last evening in the HoA, Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced that the Territory has confirmed a fourth case of COVID-19.
“We have a resident who has finally reported themselves and she is hospitalised now. She has been locally tested and the results seem to be positive,” he said.
He also said samples will be sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) for verification.
