BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - Host of the popular Virgin Islands' talk show, 'Real Talk', Mrs Karia J. Christopher says she has her eyes set on the political space in the Territory, even though it may not necessarily be very soon that she throws her hat in the proverbial political ring.

"I've always put my political aspirations behind because it's a tough space to be in. I mean, whatever party it is, I swear the BVI is the worst and it affects your children and your marriage and your relationship in a bigger way than most people are prepared for," she said.

Mrs Christopher was at the time speaking on the Thursday, May 19, 2020, edition of 'Honestly Speaking' with Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline on ZBVI 780 AM, noting that politics is a tough space in the Territory.

"I'm not saying it is going to happen tomorrow, but if I'm truthful and I'm honest, I certainly would see myself in some political space... that's the honest truth," she said.

VI politicians fail because of 'circle' - Mrs Christopher

She said for politicians in the VI, there seems to be an inability to surround themselves with people who can steer them away from a wrong path, hence they fail in the sector.

"I see the failure when persons surround themselves with yes men and yes women and, therefore, that authoritative way that I can never be wrong is normally what the downfall is."

Mrs Christopher said whenever she eventually enters politics, "It is my hope to surround myself with persons who will keep me on the straight and narrow."

"I don't want to be a leader in whatever space I am in, just to say you're a leader. I love people from the depths of my heart and I literally want to be a game-changer in whatever space it is," she said.

Why would she need "Island people" to vote for her, she's a Local and the last time I check BVI are not Continents...or maybe it's because she doesn't have a big last name. People like you make me sick!

It takes guts and grit to speak your truth. I don’t recall her ever saying she was competing with any woman. She’s articulate and has presence. What’s to be will always be. You go Mrs. C. I admire you.

So all this time that you were so critical of the lady already in her political space, it was jealousy and envy speaking? I wondered why you were so against her. No need to be nasty there is room enough for both of you and lots more.

I know most comments on here are negative as most person's living in the Virgin Islands have had a very unique encounter with Mrs. Christopher, even I can say so myself but put our personal differences aside and pay attention to her when and if she decides to play a role in the future of the Virgin Islands election process. I am not saying I will vote for or against her but be open minded with all the politicians in our community. Some are there to help improve our islands, while others are there for themselves, however we the people of the virgin islands have to remember we have the power to change and improve our livelihoods by voting on candidates that has the best interest of our community and not their pockets. Politics is a hard game to play, reason as much as you would want to be an individual and not a yes man (so to say), how much can you accomplish without the backing of an established political party, especially if you don't have a strong and positive background in the community. Most people see Mrs. Christopher as a "stuck up high and mighty BITCH", and again that's being judgmental for those who don't know her personally. As she stated she is a people person, however her image amongst people that are not her peers does not reflect that, so I would suggest she starts being a little more approachable amongst the commoners (nothing personal I am included). Remember winning an election in the Virgin Islands is not like the US where electorial college votes count, at home is the PEOPLE that can make or break your political career.
