FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas, USA- A new national record for the Virgin Islands has been established in the Women’s Outdoor Triple Jump.

Kala Penn, representing University of Florida, set the new mark, 13.36m, while competing at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday May 11, 2019.

Penn finished 5th in the Women’s Triple Jump Final at John McDonnell Field. Her fellow Gator, Yanis David, took top honours with a jump of 14.35m.

The previous Outdoor Triple Jump record for the Virgin Islands was held by Chantel E. Malone, who had leapt 13.27m at the NCAA Division Championships at Des Moines, USA on June 10, 2011.

In May 2018, Penn, while a sophomore at ASA College-Miami, made history by becoming the Territory’s first female athlete to earn double All American honours outdoors.
