JVD man caught with illegal firearm

WEST END, Tortola, VI - A Jost Van Dyke (JVD) man who is said to be no stranger to the courts was yesterday morning August 22, 2014 caught with an illegal firearm and taken into custody by officers on duty at the Sopher's Hole, West End, Ferry Dock.

According informed sources the man, (name known) traveled from the Island of Jost Van Dyke to West End, Tortola via the public ferry service when he was found with the weapon.

Public Relations Officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Mr Carl Mason confirmed the arrest but at the time was unable to confirm if any charge/s were laid.

Police minutes ago in a press release on the arrest said: “Officers from the RVIPF stopped and searched a Jost Van Dyke man in West End, Tortola, yesterday (Friday) morning.

"The man, a 26 year old resident of Jost Van Dyke, was found to be in unlawful possession of a Smith & Wesson .40 calibre semi-automatic handgun, several rounds of ammunition and magazines for the weapon.

"The firearm was seized and the man was arrested and taken to Road Town Police Station for questioning. He remains in custody awaiting the outcome of police enquiries.”
