ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Government of the Virgin Islands has lifted the 7-day COVID-19 lockdown on the sister island of Jost van Dyke effective today, Saturday, July 25, 2020.

The early lift comes after the island was placed on lockdown last Tuesday, July 21, 2020, following reports that a passenger who travelled to St Vincent and the Grenadines with links to Jost van Dyke, had tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival in that country.

Via the Public Health (Covid-19 Control and Suppression Measures- Jost van Dyke) (Revocation) Order, 2020, Statutory Instrument Gazetted today, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), officially ended the lockdown which was scheduled to run until Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

The lockdown applied to persons and vessels on a 24-hour basis, to prevent any departures from Island.

All negative results from latest mass testing - Hon Malone

In an announcement last evening, Hon Malone said that after some 316 COVID-19 test samples collected on Jost van Dyke; with 20 on Tortola and 3 from Virgin Gorda between Tuesday and Thursday, July 23, 2020, all have returned negative test results.

Further, the lift comes as a group of 22 medical professionals from Cuba arrived today to aid in the COVID-19 fight, train locals and to help implement measures that can prevent and manage any future COVID-19 community transmission in the territory.

Now we are afraid and cowardly giving our freedom away easily....We think that locking our doors and our Ports and Borders will keep us safe.. How naive how sad.. " The Enemy will aleays pursue us, If you are afraid to die, fear will forever consume you... When u r not afraid to die u will live long, the stress of fear will not live in you and eat you away like cancer.. . Yes we should Live our lives carefully and responsibly, Do not be afraid because the enemy will not go away ..Why are we slaves who have been through the worst, now so afraid.. why?.. Lets start to live my people. Live like free people. . This freedom didnt come easy dont give it up easily..stop been afraid... After this Virus, they will ghrow something else at us, always seeking go control us, they say fear is the easiest way to contfol a black man...

i agree. the Govt has done an excellent job managing this Covid 19 pandemic. my only suggestion is to put measures in place to get the economy going. suggestions have been made to develop the fishing industry. sport fishing; commercial fishing. we have a fishing zone that i understand extends about 200 feet north of the BVI. let's get that going. and let's encouarge intra-regional trade. the caribbean (sans Dominican Republic) is in good standing in comparison to the rest of the world/regions as far as this Covid 19 is concerned. we just have to get the economy moving and I have confidence that the Govt will get it moving. we just need to get it moving like yesterday.

The young lady was NEVER positive!! SVG Government needs to apologise to the government of the Virgin Islands!
It was a set up from the beginning, but God don't sleep! How is it that she was positive and she was sent home by the government of SVG with her mother and sister? The government of the Virgin Islands would have quarantine her by herself.

That alone was a red flag!!
The Government of the Virgin Islands needs an apology!

I am with you 100%. Yes, they need to issue a public apology to the Government of the BVI. That was some dirty underhanded CAPPP AKA LIES.

@ facts..you should be careful how you phrase your words..though I know what you’re trying to say, the VIP didn’t save lives - God is the one that saves lives and This Power And Glory Belongs Only to Him..however, He gave the VIP wisdom “on what to do” to help keep the country safe..Thank you God..And you also need to give God Reverence by capitalizing His Name -“God”..He’s More Than Worthy.. the VIP is doing an Amazing job Re: this pandemic; may God continue To Guide their decision-making .. I feel so happy and proud of them.. Blessings!..

Read your bible and pray for no weapon that is formed against the territory it will not prosper. Too much people praying we will expose your evil tactics in the name of Jesus and with the blood of the lamb. We are not immune from covid but we immune from the enemy tactic to put fear on the people of this territory. People I told you fews weeks ago, prayer warriors wake out of our sleep and slumber get on our knees before God because it's in the twilight a lot of evil taking place and how we have slackened our prayer for the government for some reason or the other.
Warned those in council to come out from amongst those in some associations. Who you are listening to and not all smiles and hand shakes are genuine. I'm sounding the alarm again don't kill this messenger. Take heed you see what I'm talking about this plot was orchestrated from the pit of hell to bring down this territory and its government.

This thing is no joke my people let's rise up and take back what the devil has stolen from us. This territory need some security guards as door keepers. This fight is real people of God.

Real real I feel like fire shut up in my bones. It's real real the wicked shall not prosper. The blood stain banner I place it over this territory in the name of JESUS.

@no weapon..Amen.. I’m with you.the devil is a LIAR.. as a community we need need to come together and keep praying- taking back what that nasty satan took from us.. let us be a community that Loves God, doing His Will, Serving Him in Spirit and in Truth as best we can.. a Christian society and not a religious society.. let God be the only God we serve..Let Him be “our” God..

I figured it was a false alarm. I heard there was a similar false alarm in Grenada. If it was the BVI that had create such a false alarm we would have been getting cursed all now and considered incompetent. They owe us an apology for real. An apology for scaring an entire population and causing an island to be locked down for no reason.
