GREAT HABOUR, Jost Van Dyke, VI – Resident of Jost Van Dyke, Rajah Smith felt that the island was continually being overlooked with regard to having its concerns being addressed.

Smith, speaking with this news site on September 10, 2012, reiterated concerns that were to this day still not addressed on the island.

One of the main concerns he pointed out was the collapse of the road which runs from Great Harbour to Little Harbour that was damaged some time ago through bad weather.

The current Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Smith noted, had expressed to residents that repairs were on the cards for the community’s roadways. He however, said he was not sure if it had been a matter of urgency for the Ministry to have the repairs done.

Expressing a need also for improved social services at Jost Van Dyke, the resident also stated that there may also be need for a central government complex to be added to the agenda of the government as well. This he said should offer more accessible services to the people of the island.

He also related that at a boat for Virgin Gorda was being procured, but one is needed for Jost Van Dyke and Anegada as well when it comes to the provision of emergency medical services. “We have situations where people have to be brought over by private boat or by or ferry [also].”

Smith felt that Jost Van Dyke has one of the fastest growing populations among the islands at the moment in spite of the fact that many may believe that there may be need for special attention and perhaps even its own district. “I find it to be ridiculous… because there are issues over at [Jost Van Dyke].”

Smith was one of the residents who had previously made a call for Jost Van Dyke to have its own District Representative in order for issues to be more centrally addressed.

No disrespect intended for Rajah Smith desire for JVD having its own district. But JVD's population is too small to justify its own district at this time. In fact the already has too many districts given its small geographical area and small population; it is approximately 57 sqm with an~population of 30K(eagerly awaiting census results) and 13 representatives. What JVD, along with other outlying islands, need is better representation from at large representatives and district representative. Moreover, they need a fair allocation of available resources. Districts are entitled to a fair allocation of available resources regardless of whom the reprmesentative is. The people have exercise their democratic right and vote their preference and should not be penalize for it. I know that elections have

consequences and to the victor go the spoils. But smart politicians work to increase their level of support

Rajah, you had the Minister of Works and Cabinet Member ears for over 10yrs and nothing was done. Where were you 4yrs ago? This new Government was just elected, give them a chance to work. Did you whisper any of this to Fraser 2,3,4yrs ago when he had the power to deal with it? All of a sudden we have a set of patriots caring about their country. lmao!

You got your break alright, "a cut ass in the last election" come 2016 you will be back, and another cut ass will await you, only this time worst. You had your hatchet men (one dead) walking the line on election day bribing voters. You brought in people from outside the District to vote for you, but now we know how low you are. We will be waiting for you with an assign.

Each time there is an election, you NDP always going to beat the Liberator, as soon as he cot your ass it's one excuse after the other, after the other. First it used to be the St. Thomas people who elected him, I wonder who elected him now? Oh, I forgot, it was his family, but now you said they have deserted him so you going to beat him. YOU FOOL.

          Third District is "LIBERATOR" town.

Who can identify the needs of the island better than the residents that live there? No politician that's for sure. I agree that the representative should be a resident of the island who can identify with the needs of the community.

Rajah I know JVD people would come crying just like how they did for the past 16 years. $500 can only last for a day and a half. Examine the ratio - 1/12 days v. 4 years. Taxation without representation. Leadership matters!

Exactly! They want to behave like a set of crackheads doing things for petty nonsense then complain in the end. You elect Alvin for 16yrs, 8 of those years if I'm not mistaken he was in Cabinet. 4 of those years he was Minister of Works yet nothing. And as another poster say above Raja had Mr Fraser's ear when he was in Cabinet as well, yet nothing. But now he know bout JVD. I guess he scooping some contracts over there since SCBay is a dead zone. lol I just got to laugh. Now we know bout loving our country. But when they had their little cartel spending millions on nonsense nobody didn't know about JVD. Talk about opportunist.

Rajah please, All those years your master " Farser" was minister for communications and works; you didn't know JVD needed repairs. All ov a sudden VIP out and NDP in your attempting to pressure the newly elected minister.

This harly seems like your own doing, tell fraser give it a rest. Probably next 4 years if VIP gets in that can be his main priority " To fix up JVD" . Since it is of such high importance all of a sudden.

    STRUPES!!!!!

Cant believe it, can you? Yes this is Rajah and Rajah alone. When people like you resort to jealousy, tne only think you can do is get nasty. You in your small mind, cannot believe that Rajah has advanced to th point where he can get an article on such an important issue published.

Fraser did have something to do with it, but not what you think. Fraser helped Rajah to mature into th man he is today, just like h has helped many many others, but you won't know that, because you are too buisy hating. Enjoy your miserable life.

Since when Rajah is a resident of JVD??? Not because he has close family over there means he is a resident...unless he considers himself a resident of Sea Cows Bay and JVD at the same time. None the less, what is the basis to this interview with Rajah...What Rajah need to tell the people of JVD is when they can expect the start and completion of the clinic that his party had big ground breaking ceremonies for.
