BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI - Word reaching Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) from senior law enforcement officials, is that a cook who works at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut on the main Island of Tortola, has been arrested by Police in a sting operation.

The incident took place yesterday, Saturday, December 15, 2018, close to the prison compound, when both Police and prison officials were tipped off that the man identified as Rexford Thomas—a Jamaican National—was given a bag which allegedly contained drugs to be given to a prisoner.

Someone rat on Thomas

On his way to the Balsam Ghut facility, both Police and Prison Officers stopped Mr Thomas very close to the compound, did a search and allegedly found the controlled substance in his procession.

Mr Thomas, also a former Royal Virgin Islands Police Force employee was later arrested and charged, but granted bail. The Sea Cow’s Bay resident is expected to appear before a Magistrate on January 25, 2019—according to the same senior sources—to answer to the charge of possession of drugs.

Police Investigators are tight-lipped on the name of the Prisoner(s) to whom the drugs were allegedly going to, or if Mr Thomas had done this before.

If he was in Jamaica the he would make USD$1.75 per hour. In the BVI he makes no less than $6.00 per hour USD; he could be making more since he has been working there for sometime now. Stop calling down the BVI, if you don't like it please LEAVE. This country has been very good to many persons not from here.

"The minimum wage in Jamaica is now $7000 JMD for a 40-hour work week as of August 1, 2018. Under the law, all persons employed in Jamaica should not be paid less than the amount stipulated as minimum wage which is JMD$175 per hour or USD$1.34 per hour."

Every news site including other countries if you follow international news identify the nationality of the individual even if it is a local. VINO also identifies locals as well.

You keep throwing your bucket in the well, you didn’t realized that one day the bottom was going to drop out? Word around is, he’s been doing this a long time & they’ve been watching him for a while.
Christian what? There’s a number of people that are Church followers & not Christians.
I pray whoever the Magistrate is dealing with this guy’s case will set an example out of this guy & give him a custodial sentence.
Catch the others that do it too & give them all custodial sentences. Let them see what it feels like behind those locked doors.
