ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Maybe he has a good chin or a wicked counter punch but talk show host Julio S. Henry has dared come to the support of Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser (R3) and also agreeing that Ninth District Representative Dr The Hon Hubert O’Neal has no “reach.”

Mr Henry, speaking on Things to Talk on ZBVI 780 AM on November 17, 2016 also pointed out that various areas in the Ninth District have been “suffering”.

Henry was adding his voice to the firing punches saga between Hons Fraser and O’Neal, following statements made by Hon Fraser at his public meeting on November 2, 2016 at the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda, on the alleged inability by constituents to reach Hon O’Neal, and that the Ninth District has not seen any progress, suggesting that it may be a case of disrespect for the Representative through assistance by his own National Democratic Party (NDP).

He pointed out that the shortcomings of any Representative of the Ninth District could be blamed on them not having clout and having a “lack of reach.” Following these statements, an irate Dr O’Neal called his own meeting on November 9, 2016, at the same location and in a manner most unbecoming of an elected representative, said he is normally a quiet person but he was upset to the point that he would have punched Hon Fraser even if they were in the House of Assembly.

“He was upset because he felt Mr Fraser may have spoken out of turn, and he said he doesn’t have a reach. Well, I want to support what Fraser said because it’s true, a lot of these backbenchers do not have any reach,” Mr Henry said.

9th district suffering under NDP

“Don’t be upset that you can’t get anything done because that’s a fact. The Ninth District since this government took power has been suffering, they have lost jobs and opportunities, there have been cases on top of cases of discrimination in the community, the elderly people are not getting served, you can’t get a hospital done, the ferry service is in poor condition, the dock is in poor condition and on and on and on, this is evidence. You have people in Anegada complaining, bawling…So why is he upset?”

Put Representatives to manage each island

Mr Henry said while this suggestion of his is nothing new coming from him, if representatives are placed on each island with the task of overseeing the needs of the people, things would be better for residents of those islands.

“Give them the resources, give them funding, you would have a much more productive situation,” he pointed out.

Co-host of the radio show, Mr Natalio “Sowande Uhuru” Wheatley also spoke on the matter, stated that “By now I believe that Dr O’Neal must have realised that he made a mistake in terms of speaking about the possible use of violence.”

This is an unfair description if just applied solely to Bertie, as the things Sam state (lost jobs and opportunities, discrimination, elderly people not getting served, hospital can't get finished, poor ferry services, poor conditions of ports, complaints from residents) describes the whole of the VI, not just the 9th District.

So if there is "no reach", this is applicable to the whole government, not just Bertie.

Also, if there is so much to do in the 9th, a lot of the things for which Bertie has "no reach", would have been there before he got in (he is in just over 1 year), so the previous representative would have also had "no reach", if these things were undone.

The 9th District suffering under NDP? NDP got a candidate elected to the ninth district just over a year ago, VIP led that district for the last 30 + years and it's NDP fault?

I agree with your statement. VG has been forever suffering and we so blind we want to blame Bertie, a man who has been begging us to give him a chance and now just barely a year, everything that has been bad is his fault. VIP has us before some of us were born and now we can't get the lil something in our hands we blame Bertie. Blind set of people.

This talk show host need to do a good self introspection. Maybe the 9th district rep. don't have any reach as he stated, but in my opinion this applies to him as well. He must remember that when you point one finger at someone, the other four points back at you.

As VI Landers we have no respect for each other; we take pride in pulling down one another....we have so many social matters that should be addressed but listen to us as one people, we will take our valuable family time to go on public forums to spread disharmony and hate in our society;the very same community we have call home...all some of us getting it is a pat on the back when the talk show done(black on black shootings along with black on black social chaos)....question: when last you hear a white person in this territory took out his gun then shoot is white brother: when last you tune into the local media and listen as on white brother destroy another brother)....we will continue to be second class citizens in our own territory)

@ belonger: you better hope between now and 2019 no other political party form: recall the young fellow started out with Callwood(forget the name of that group) before the sun set he jump across to Alvin party and now he join up with the dead horses(sorry I mean VIP) by next weekend he will form his own group....poor yellow, young and unstable: when he get serious he will make a good candidate because he is well educated but being influenced by a set of old dead beats(folks who did nothing for this territory but now on public radio with pure chat) leadership is a very serious matter
