ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A man caught with a quantity of cocaine and cannabis wants the court to be lenient on him during his sentencing because he is currently unemployed and has three children to maintain.

Eversely Barker changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on two of the four charges brought against him at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

He pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and possession of cannabis before Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin.

Barker then entered not guilty pleas to possession with intent to supply on both charges.

He was caught with 25.6 grams of cocaine and 13.6 grams of cannabis at Sage Mountain on August 3, 2018.

Barker also had the sum of $126 on his person during his run-in with the law, but no forfeiture was done with respect to it, and the funds would be returned to him.

The Prosecutor also withdrew the charges that he pleaded not guilty to and offered no evidence against him before the court.

It’s rough

When asked if he wanted to say anything that the court should consider during its sentencing, Barker said, “This is a real rough time of the year right now. At the present moment, I am unemployed with three kids.”

He added that he just started a maintenance and landscaping business, but it is yet to take off.

The matter was then adjourned to December 9, 2019 for sentencing.

Wow! How pathetic, all of a sudden he bringing kids to the forefront, if in fact he have three children, which I don’t know of, I bet he don’t support them. The kind of excuses these guys make when they get caught

Stop using the excuse by inserting the children in the stupidity for pity. Dude, your children should be your inspiration to go out and get a job which you can find. Dude, I have two kids I have to support and I do what I have to do, any job be it cleaning toilets, cleaning fish, washing cars you name it. I would sweep the streets to feed and take care of my kids before I sell drugs. Dude, you probably don't even support those kids.

As a man, I want to say thank you for that comment and keeping it real. I have two boys and I will also do what I have to do for them until they are old enough to take care of themselves. I am not with their mother but I have to say she is a good mother. We don't get along but I will never turn my back or stop supporting them to spite their mother, all that does is hurt the child/children. Sometimes I don't have much but I make sure my boys have food, shelter and their other needs are taking care of. I help made them and it is my responsibility as a father to make sure they are good. I will not put that sole hardship on their mother. Most of you men that is selling drugs and have children could care less about your children. You only care about them when you get arrested with the lame excuse about you have children and you were doing it to feed your children. Pure Hogwash!!!

As a son of the soil...... if i may speak honestly, many folk are out here working very hard. Unfortunately, for the hard work that is done, we get a very soft pay. Ive seen what hunger can drive a man to do, i cannot condone the drug activity but the environment that exists in the bvi will definitely drive you and many more of our young men down that path. Let this be a lesson for you but also an eye opener to the community....if we as vislanders even still have a community that is.... You just happened to get caught, 9 times out of 10 the people you working for these days made it to where they are by going down a path that was not deemed righteous.

Your" children" manufactured or otherwisre, were the last thing on your mind when you decided to make a fast and easy dollar. Frightful Daddy with children would be doing the right thing come hell or high water in order to be a positive role model, not shame them and not be imprisoned and away from them. Throw the book at this loser as a warning to children out there. Let him serve a purpose.

You can still find your way on a soft pay salary. The problem with most of us, we hang our hats to high. We are not willing to settle for what we need, we want to settle for the unessary vanities. When hungry or have a bill pending, can you cut up the iphone and have that for a meal? Can you give the teller at the light company your iphone as payment?

Liar! You would be selling drugs whether or not if you had children because that is your mind set. Fast easy money have left so many young people here dead. You all are killing each other and if you were the right mind set, you would be too afraid to bring that lifestyle around your family because of a drug deal gone bad.

This is a tough time for everyone. Only difference, everyone is not using the excuse to sell drugs to feed their children. Go pack bags, sell water, do what you have to do the legal way to feed your children.

Does the children's mother work? 2 halves make a whole. If she work and you work, together you can make it. Stop allowing your children to see you hanging out selling drugs before you influence them to do the same. Break the cycle NOW!
