ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - After being one of the engine supporting the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) from its inception in 1998, and being very vocal and a strong advocate in their recent 2015 landslide victory, times have changed.

Popular Bishop of the New Life Baptist Church in Duff’s Bottom, businessman and Chairman of the BVI Christian Council, John I. Cline said he will “not support the NDP come next election”. He was at the time being interviewed on the online radio show Fresh Radio Vybz with host Paul A. Peart aka ‘Gadiethz' on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

"NDP has taken us back 30 years"-John I. Cline

Mr Cline said this current government has put the Territory with their relationship with the United Kingdom (UK) "back some 30 years and has erased all the advancements we have made in terms of BVI autonomy for the last thirty years.”

Bishop Cline told the host that former Premier Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE stood up to the British and that kind of leadership is missing today.

He called on the Opposition to put a team together and said, "We don’t need doctors and lawyers we have that now and look where we are. We just need regular people who love country, it had guys in the days that made a difference like Mr Stoutt, T. B Lettsome and Ivan Dawson.”

When pressed by the host, as if there could be any circumstances under which he can support the NDP he insisted “No, at least not in its current makeup and with that leader...and I speak with the sentiments of a lot of BVIslanders and NDP supporters, too much confusion we cannot go forward with them..”

Jury out on who is not running from NDP

When asked about the Recovery Agency Act 2018 and how it could have passed with a 10 to 2 margin, the Bishop noted that it passed because “there was hand ringing, and lobbying even from the governor…”

The founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre also added that those who are rumoured not to be running in the next general elections “need to come forward now and make the announcement” and stop playing games, “see Paul Ryan [USA House Speaker] came out early and made an announcement, but the jury is still out about persons in the NDP claiming not to be running again.”

When asked if he is upset with the NDP over his termination as Chairman of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) he stated, “No and people who are saying that are simply blinded by hearsay…We are fighting for our economic survival, viability and autonomy, I have more friends in the NDP Government than in any other, I spend time at their houses socialising, but friendship will not cloud my judgement over my country and what is right,” the man of the cloth stated.

Two religious leaders not supporting NDP

Bishop Cline told the host Gadiethz, that he will not be a candidate in the next elections and has now become the second strong NDP supporter who have announced publicly they will not support the ruling party.

Last week former Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Pastor and radio commentator of the show Honestly Speaking Claude O. Skelton-Cline made known he will not support the NDP next election. His uncle Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) is the Minister for Health and Social Development a cabinet member of NDP Administration.

Well, go independent, the UK will be delighted to let you go. As usual you only want to claim to be British when it suites you, when you are in trouble and need money. Well, you can't continue to have it both ways, if you are not happy, take independence and find someone else to give you money to waste.

HE needs to listen to what the Spirit of the Lord is saying and not just his emotions getting the better part of him. Whether its NDP or VIP or whomever, God is still in control. He has the ultimate say. Its only a matter of time, you will know who the sheep are from the goats.

Is it the NDP that has set us back 30 years or the Hurricanes. Furthermore both the NDP and VIP are responsible for bad spending . I am not sure but perhaps you should play the tape that the NDP used to win the election where a politician told his party that if they did not control their spending the country will come to financial disaster. If you have no money and on your knees then the end result is take it our leave it. We must all come together and help to rebuild our country. This is a time for unity.
