LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI - Dr Kedrick D. Pickering (R7), the politician who has kept the National Democratic Party (NDP 1) Government—led by Co-Leader and Premier, Dr the Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL)—from falling, has broken his silence.

Speaking briefly to our news centre today Tuesday, January 8, 2019, the Medical Doctor who has represented the seventh district form 1999 to current, confirmed, “I will be running again.”

When asked, if he was running with Mr Walwyn’s NDP 1 group he noted, “they have put someone in my place, so why are you asking such a question?”

In addition, when pressed as to who he will be running with, the Minister for Natural Resources and Labour declined to comment and drove off.

Independent candidate?

There have been speculations last year that Dr Pickering would have contested with the Julian Fraser RA (R3) led Progressives United (PU) or the breakaway NDP 2 group called the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) led by his friend, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL).

Both Skelton and Pickering are founders of the NDP 1 and refused to be led by Hon Walwyn.

Dr Pickering, in the 2019 General Election race, will face Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP) Dr Natalio D. Wheatley and NDP 1’s Hipolito D. Penn in addition to another expected independent candidate.

Most political pundits claim that Dr Pickering is still the front runner.

He can run at large so why he had to answer that way like it’s impossible

Seems like the NDP has moved on without Dr. Hon Kedrick “Frenchie” Pickering (D-7). Was he kicked to the curb? If he is not rolling with the NDP, who is he rolling with, ie, RAA, PUP, VIP or PVIM or run as an independent and if he wins could team up with a party to form the government? How awkward is the current working relationship in the NDP. Doc call election now?

Do not agree that Doc was kicked anywhere. I recall he was asked to indicate whether or not he was interested in running with the party in the upcoming election and he apparently chose not to respond which we assume as an indication that he was not so inclined. So for him to say that they gave away his position on the ballot is not exactly the truth. In fact I find his response to be very irresponsible as I am evaluating each candidate carefully on my way to the pole.

they have put someone in my place, so why are you asking such a question?” Pico playing victim lol that's funny. Pico felt that the chairmanship should've been bequeathed to him by the premier but when he realized that not even his committee members supported him he attempted to hold the party hostage by not indicating if he will seek to be re-elected as district rep.

By now everyone knows Pico don't support the "just come" Myron and would join any other party just to see him fail. But not today BOBO, your effectiveness as a minister has diminished. We enjoy your eloquent speeches but will judge you based on how you ran your ministry and your SINGLE-HANDED assassination of the Agriculture and fishing sector. STAY WOKE people!

All of you need to shut up, Doc is the man that saved us from a snap election, we are glad he did not resign and allow England to step in. Thank you Doc for keeping us afloat, don't mind the noise.

That’s part of their dumb strategy But we can see through it. I wonder why NDP 1 wasn’t referred to as VIP 2! Because they were ALL VIPs just about. HL didn’t start out as a VIP either.

I was saying the same thing but didn't want to be the one to post it. It seems a little unprofessional.

They need to cut these subliminal messages out! I notice it with VIP a lot. I am awake and waiting for all parties contesting to be honest about the position the territory is in, address the issues, and bring solutions to the table!

it should have been: fraser: pickering: skelton but that train slipped off the track and never made it to the intended destination: one thing about Dr Pickering, he is not a egotistical like some of the others: ego caused those 3 to be sitting in the opposition as we speak....those guys will be alright because dem bread dun-butter:

I knew he couldn't give up his status but look at his district he hasn't done anything for them & was part of this disgraceful gov that we want gone. Can D7 ppl really want more of the same? I don't think so this time. He can continue doing all the samethings he was doing bc he makes no difference. He was exiled in his party til now & made no difference if he leaves makes no difference. He just didn't want to sit with Andrew but he makes no difference whatsoever. He will never un at large b/c he would only get sticket votes anyway lol

Government Ministers declare their assets so that we the public could see who owns what. We want to know who owns villas at oilnut bay, luxury yachts etc.

@ Nolan: these politicians simply puts there financial holdings in other names(how can we move around this tactic): a number of our political leadership have used and will continue using their political portfolio to make money while holding electoral offices(insider trading)

just a follow up and this simply based on my 60 years of experience: there have been a serious shift in the conduct of modern day politicians: you mostly see your representative or aspiring representative a few weeks just before a general election(campaigning) once victiours at the polls he or she simply vanish..we need men or women who will keep connected with us(come on over and talk to me): I had to remind a politician that there are 365 day in a years(year come year go, one does not see him)....out of the 365 day in a given not even 10 minutes to hear my issues:

don’t cuss me: I am of opinion that elections must have a definitive date: no one given political party should such privilege information to themselves...currently only the former chairman and the current chairman have such sensitive information: What is the big secret

Doc never turned his back on the party, even when everyone knew it was falling apart. He has shown much respect for the Party Leader Dr. Smith, he has demonstrated genuine dignity and commitment to the Party. He has stayed with the party to the term’s end and should be commended. He is one of the founding members of the NDP and to his credit, he should not have had to pledge his allegiance to Myron. Doc you have my vote, once you are no longer affiliated with the NDP.

Now. Let’s take a. Look at the 7th district race.

Doc is the incumbent and therefore has the advantage. If nothing else he has been a consistent district representative

Wheatley (VIP) - Is of good character. However, each election he emerges but never sticks around after being unsuccessful to demonstrate to the district’s people why he would be a good choice the next election.

Diego (NDP) - What exactly is his platform? Why is he running? I cant understand how asking for $2000 could lead to this? In fact, there’s so many reasons why even the NDP supporters in the district won’t even vote for him. Diego, the political arena means you life becomes an open book.. Get your house in order...
