BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - Six District Representative of the National Democratic Party (NDP 1), Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines revealed that she never envisioned herself running for elections even as she is seeking re-election in District Six under the NDP’s 2019 slate.

Ms Maduro-Caines, during an interview on the ‘NDP Radio’ programme, last evening Monday, January 21, 2019, at the studios of ZBVI 780am, chronicled her journey through politics under NDP 1.

The Calling

“I remember Hon Vanterpool and my friend Juggy [Elivis J. Harrigan] came up to the house one night and said they were forming this party and they needed me to be a part of it,” she reflected and told the listening audience.

“I like to be active but I never saw myself running for election, they were at a crossroad where they couldn’t find anyone to run in the district at that particular time… and I said I would do it,” Ms Maduro-Caines revealed.

According to her, the night she ultimately decided to confirm her participation after a series of meetings, “you could have heard a pin drop.”

She said many in the Dr. Smith led NDP 1 believed she would not be able to represent the district and even said she would be easily beaten in the polls.

Prayers

“I could not see the party not having someone in the district to run, and my father always used to ponder… he was really into politics, Austin Maduro for those of you who don’t know… and he always said no district should be left unopposed,” she said even as the NDP 1 is without a full slate to contest the 2019 elections.

“I and went home that night and I got on my knees and I said, lord, what did I just do”, Hon Maduro-Caines revealed. She said despite that, she had done her best over the years to help youths and represent the district in whatever way she can.

“And they know they can come 24/7 and find food,” Hon Maduro-Caines uttered in acknowledging that she was a good cook.

She doesn't need to debate. If John is bringing anything to the table he does not need anyone to help him bring it out. If he cant bring it out on his own he need to go sit down.

Debates is for people who don't know what to do or where to go and is only using debate for sense of direction. If he has no direction he needs to go sit down.

Who the VIP think they are fooling? They hire people drafting scripted materials to present an appearance of intelligence knowing half of what they are reading is not achievable. Big pie in the sky unrealistic manifestos. Then you put them in and nothing gets done.

Mrs Maduro-Caines never saw herself running for election

I have only seen her when she ran for election 4 years ago, and again now that she is running for election again.

"She said many in the Dr. Smith led NDP 1 believed she would not be able to represent the district and even said she would be easily beaten in the polls.". This must be a journalistic error as Dr. Smith only led one NDP. No need for a distinction. The continuous deliberate mis labeling of the two parties by the writer looks soooo ridiculous as it serves no political advantage.

Dr. Smith is "good people" too but that dont mean he is a good politician or leader. The record speak for itself.

Hon Alvera Madura-Caine’s (.D-6), common on. Quit looking backward and focus on present and the future. You are seeking a third term as D-6 rep. Outline the unrealized priorities for the district, how you are going to work in caucus and in the HOA to get a commensurate share of resources for the district. Show how you going to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members to move the territory forward. You took on the People’s man and slayed him. So why not take on John Samuel and others and do the same. Debate one and all and bring a smile on “Bruk” and the old lady faces.

@facts, because you guys only remember your last meal. A few dollars in hand before elections and an order to go to One Mart and pick up what you want have you all blindfolded. When you already spent the few dollars and the food run out your district is still in a total mess. Look at the state of the 6th district as we speak. Are you really satisfied with the start of affairs in your district right now after elected your present representative for the past eight your. Give me a fricking break. As not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country. Stop allow yourself to be bought for a few dollars and some groceries.

She will served in 2019. When you all want people to look for you all just check in to the hospital but who you all don't see. half of you don't see your fathers, children or mothers until something happen but you all want the politicians to come to you all doors everyday it seems.

Can we please get (1) the boat trailers removed from blocking the garbage bin around the corner by the Fisheries and (2) remove all the derelict vehicles on the road going across upper Baugher's Bay and connecting to the road going up to Belle Vue. Lots of tourist drive that road and stop to take pictures of the town and habour from there. Please get serious and clean up the area; it's a disgrace.
