“I cannot speak for Dr Smith’s Gov’t” - Walwyn on increment payments

-Says once elected, “we will pay those increments by March 15, I can say that”

GREENLAND, Tortola, VI - After sparking outrage over the promise of paying Civil Servant increments on March 15, 2019—on condition of being elected—embattled National Democratic Party Chairman (NDP 1) Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL) is defending his position on the matter noting that the money is coming because the Virgin Islands (VI) had an 'exceptional year'.

Hon Walwyn’s defence came at the Greenland community last night, February 19, 2019, at a rally in support of Hon Marlon A. Penn’s re-election as the Eight District Representative.

Money outstanding since 2016

While increments for civil servants were outstanding since 2016, Mr Walwyn said, “We wanted to pay it but we had 2017 we know what happened in 2017, and we had 2018 where we had a successful year. Isn’t it the proper thing to pay the civil servants the increments if you make money?” he questioned.

According to Hon Walwyn, he cannot respond to the call for the increments to be paid now because “I cannot speak for Dr Smith’s Government. I can speak for the administration of Myron Walwyn,” he said in justifying the date.

“We have had an exceptional year in 2018 thanks to the work of Honourable Premier who is here with us tonight. We had a year where the revenue was $372ML, $60ML over what we budgeted,” he revealed.

In reiterating his promise, he said, “We will pay those increments by March 15, I can say that… What is $9M out of the $60M that you had as an overage to pay the civil servants what you owe them?” he again questioned, even as the payment promise comes with a condition and three years late.

Attack on Hon Skelton

Further, while promising to run a clean campaign, Mr Walwyn ventured into name-calling which came in the form of a personal attack on Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM-NDP2) Chairman, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), by calling him “Bob the Builder” and saying his brain is “too big for his body”.

In hitting back at critics over his promise to pay the outstanding increments after elections he said, “But you see they think their brain big, I just heard Bob the Builder down there talking and Bob the Builder went out on a promise that he is going to pay civil servants an extra month pay every year.”

He continued, “But you see Bob the builder's brain was always too big for his body, that’s why Bob the builder couldn’t work under anybody unless he was the leader.”

It has been very clear for a long time now that Mr. Myron Walwyn is a bully and care very little about the progress of the BVI and its people, in fact he pledges more allegiance elsewhere...interesting that he always refusing to go for interviews or debates or discussions involving all the party leaders but only want to attack Mr. Andrew Fahie. This man is not the right person to lead this country because he is more of a dictator than anything else!!! So, with that, he would push for independence so he can have his own way, but let him continue to fool himself because we the people cannot afford to throw away our country by putting this man in charge. People please be wise on February 25, and vote for our country to move forward from the current state we are in...those who were elected into power in 2015, eleven of them, they have us in this condition we are in...do not blame the hurricanes of 2017, they just highlighted the problems and exposed a lot of the wrong doings. All of the millions of dollars they cannot account for, not just the 7.2 million for the plane that has not transported anyone to or from the BVI, dead or alive to this date. I am begging you the voters of this country to not put the BVI in the hands of this man and his hand-picked group to govern our affairs, do not let your memory be erased.. also, remember what Albert Einstein said, "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." So how can we put back any of the persons who heled to create the financial and other woes in our country to now fix them???? Thank you for taking the time to read this post because this is the most serious election in the history of the BVI and we will have to answer to the younger generations if we put back Mr. Walwyn to completely destroy our paradise...

In my 60 year this is the worst political campaign: the simple mindedness is off the chain
the slander and the name calling from people who wants to take the territory forward is unbelievable; you won’t see this level of conduct in a kindergarten classroom: some pettyness

You Mr. Walwyn wanted Hon Skelton to remain with your part and you even promised to give him the ministry of finance if he stayed with the party. Only now you know his brains is too big for his body. Please voter of Virgin Islands vote Myron & NDP out he took out of place.

I really do not like the way many of our candidates are behaving including Myron. Saying that, I do think he is the best bet for the country right now. The results speak for themselves. I am willing to give him a go as premier, I just cannot see any of the other party leaders filling the role. Dancia is not up to the job nor any other independent

Myron you make me sh...t with shame according to my grandmother from St. Kitts does say. Boss, who won't you sacrifice. You went to a law firm and said its the civil service that lacks capacity and not the politicians corrupt. Now you separate yourself from your trusted and loved leader just to justify a lie to pay civil servants salaries. Then you jump on Ronnie because he removed to walk under your darkness. Ronnie is a gentleman and has character and integrity. I have not heard him attack anyone on this campaign. You are fighting against everybody. It's sad and it's shameful. But as my grandmother from St. Kitts would say again, only when the wind blow you see fowl bottom and only when a person get squeezed you really see what they have in them. Well they are really squeezing you and what is coming out of you is pathetic. This was your final error in this election cycle. I am a first generation Virgin Islander and I could never vote for you with this kind of behaviour. You are the weakest link. Good bye!

Now Mr Eloquent speaker because the words drip from your tongue so smoothly you think youre smart. You probably are but using it for ALL the wrong reasons. The Green Team busy prancing on the stage and dancing every chance they get like it’s a party and everything is joke and throwing dirt as much as they can. The Red Team out of order, and while they want to be serious but they just can’t help themselves.

The Blue Team needs to slide past the two of them and win this election. The majority of the people are watching and listening.

May the Hon Ronnie get this country back in track.

MVW please, please, please stop robbing yourself of votes. How you mean you cannot speak for Dr. Smith Government? You was a minister of the Dr. Smith Government and sat at the table of every decision. How come all of a sudden you cannot speak for Dr. Smith Government. Are you throwing Dr. Smith on the side line already. Your true colors are coming out every time you mount that rostrum. Come on man, speak with sense. One can easily see the desperation setting in.

I am not surprised that Hon Walwyn is pushing Hon. Dr Smith under the bus in order to gain the sympathy from the voters. The minister was a member of the cabinet and as such whatever transpired during the past government he is a part and parcel of it. Myron must not try to fool the people. This is gross deceitfulness and he should not be trusted to lead the government of the BVI.

It's Dr.Smith's government/administration until after elections and a new premier is named. Let's be sobering real here.
