'I am the most qualified in HoA to speak about issues of God- Hon Turnbull

- spearheads calls for protest at June 3, 2019 sitting of House of Assembly
Leading the call for protest action for the June 3, 2019 Sitting of the House of Assembly was Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), who implored Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie 9R1) to exercise common sense and strike the 2nd and 3rd readings of the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act, 2019 from the Order Paper. Photo: VINO

EAST END, Tortola, VI- The four Members of the Opposition of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands (HoA) have joined forces with a section of persons of the territory to force the hands of Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) to again remove from the Order Paper the 2nd and 3rd readings of the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Led by Opposition Leader Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8), all the Members of the Opposition; Hon Julian Fraser, RA (R3), Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), and Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines (R6) were in full unison against the proposed amendments to the Passport and Immigration Act appearing on the Order Paper for the House of Assembly sitting set for Monday June 3, 2019.

‘Use your God-given common sense’- Hon Turnbull to Premier Fahie

Leading the call for protest action was Honourable Turnbull, who implored Premier Fahie to exercise common sense and strike the 2nd and 3rd readings of the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act, 2019 from the Order Paper.

“These short bills are the ones that cause the most problems,” stated Hon Turnbull, who persons are now criticising for staying silent when his then National Democratic Party (NDP) Government rushed several controversial Bills in the House of Assembly, through 3 readings in one sitting, without properly educating the public about how the bills or holding consultations.

“I am challenging the Honourable Premier and his Government, I have heard them say one time, use your God given common sense and listen because on Monday, I am going to do this, I am going to invite each and every one of you in the public, those of you online, to come to the House of Assembly, let them put out the tents because your voices must be heard,” Hon Turnbull stated at a meeting called by the Members of the Opposition at the Long Look/East End Community Centre last night May 30, 2019.

‘The Police can’t make you go outside’

Mr Turnbull sought to rile up the audience and persons viewing via live stream by encouraging them to turn up at the House of Assembly on Monday June 3, 2019 and not allow the police to disallow them from being in the HoA compound during the sittings.

It was on May 17, 2019 that a handful of protestors, some of them demanding the immediate swearing in of Fourth District Representative-Elect, Mr Mark H. Vanterpool into the House, were asked to exit the compound of the HoA for the Third Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly to commence.

“On Monday again I am encouraging everyone, come to the House of Assembly, let your voice be heard. The Police can’t make you go outside, it is your House, if you don’t want to sit, you can make us don’t sit.”

‘Prayer without works is dead’

The talks and holding of prayer sessions, including yesterday, May 30, 2019 at Sea Cows Bay, by Premier Fahie was seemingly criticised by Hon Turnbull.

“Prayer without works is dead,” said Hon Turnbull, “So when you done pray you get up off your knees and you go do something.”

Hon Turnbull had earlier said he was the most qualified to be speaking about “issues of God” as he was an ordained Minister.

“I don’t care how much you try to pray and call for unity, and unity, and unity, God is not a God of confusion and I say that without fear because in the elected House of Assembly I am the most qualified one to speak about issues of God being ordained as a Minister,” Hon Turnbull had earlier stated

“If ever there was a time for us to stand to solidify a position, it is now,” said Hon Turnbull as he blasted Premier Fahie for making public information about the meeting Members of the Opposition had sought with him.

“I see everything going out in the media now, like they still in campaign mode,” Hon Turnbull said as he explained that the Meeting of the Opposition and the Premier is intended to discuss matters of the subject based on the Opposition's concerns.

Initial protestors applauded

At last night’s meeting, a group led by Rosemary R. Rosan-Jones aka 'Cindy' were applauded for leading the cause by publicly taking a stand against what they feel is not right. The group was present at the meeting and were among those calling for the removal of the second and third readings of the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act, 2019 from the Order Paper.

Rosan-Jones spared no unfriendly words in expressing her distaste about the items being on the Order Paper.

Genesis 1:31: "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."

Hosea 4:6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..."

God gave his greatest creatures the greatest freedom. When he created spiritual beings like angels and humans, they had the capacity to freely choose to love God and all that is good. Instead, the devil and other angels abused their freedom and tried to take God’s place in order to lead the whole world astray (Revelation 12:9).

When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they cooperated with the devil’s plan. Humans tried to dethrone God and set up themselves as the judges of right and wrong, good and evil. And humans are horrible at defining good and evil; just think of people like Hitler and Stalin.

          3. So why doesn’t God get rid of all evil people? At one time, God did get rid of all the cruel people of the world. He sent a worldwide flood, and the Hitlers and Stalins of old were all washed away.

Righteous Noah and his family survived. And you would expect the world to become “very good” again. But it wasn’t. Noah and his family were infected with the same venom of sin as the rest of humanity.

You see, if God really got rid of all evil people, if he just snapped his fingers and they were all gone . . .

. . . then who would be left?

          Not me.

          Not you.

          4. What is God going to do about evil? Instead of destroying all evil people, he set up a plan. God himself decided to enter history as a human being in Jesus Christ. He never did anything that was evil. But he lived a truly good life. Yet, as God, he decided to absorb all the world’s evil into himself. He let evil crush him on the cross.

And this story seemed to be a tragedy, but then three days later, he rose from the dead, testifying to his victory over evil.

God is not the author of evil.

          The devil and humans are.

Although we struggle to understand why God would allow evil when he could stop it, we can look to the cross and see his ultimate judgment on evil.

I pray that the Holy Spirit would show you Jesus. And in Jesus you would find a God that you could love again.

Where in these posts is anyone referring to religion.

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

I am most surprised that the Opposition chose to have a meeting on the same evening when the Unity Thanksgiving service was being held. Isn't it the same God that Hon. Maduro-Caines wants to invoke on Sunday? How come they couldn't be present at the Unity service...Unity is for all, not only expatriates and belongers, but government and opposition too. We want to see good faith from the other side of the isle. Not just fighting for power and position.

By the way, who qualified the young gentleman to be more qualified to speak about God in the House of Assembly?
How can he prove such a statement?

I almost got whiplash when I saw it on my FB timeline...wondering if I was reading right. A blind man could see the division by holding the event on the same evening as the Unity Service.

As for Mr. 2nd District...he nor his hermano the least bit close to be on a pulpit preaching to others about God.

What's in the dark will always come to light.

    Really! No you’re not...
    Job: 1:8
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

" ... in the elected House of Assembly I am the most qualified one to speak about issues of God being ordained as a Minister,” What arrogance! Being an ordained minister means (perhaps) that you have more formal theological training, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have a deeper relationship with God or more credibility to speak than someone who is not ordained. There's a song that asks the question, "When will they ever learn?" I think it's a most appropriate question for these times.

Going to church to hear a feel good word from people who live a double life...mind you ask God to lead you and as for you who busy posting in church videos and church flow for likes, examine your hearts and ask yourself what you learnt and how is your relationship with God growing.

Going to church 1 day a week expecting a weekly blessing then using Facebook like the devil's puppets is not going to cut it.

Hon. Turnbull seems to have a real serious problem with authority.. he disrespected his former leader, the former premier and he is now doing the same to the new premier. What is his problem anyway?? And the kind of lifestyle he displays in the HOA or wherever, how can he in good faith say he is the most qualified to speak about matters of God in the HOA??? Who made him Jesus??? He needs to humble himself as a young man trying to find himself in politics and otherwise. The coalition opposition has not done anything really but trying to find blame, remember the new government is also busy trying to correct a lot of the mess left by the previous government. And Hon. Turnbull and others, need to allow the Premier and ministers and back benchers to do their job as they represent the people. Thank you
