ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Assuring that she has learnt much from her father the late Chief Minister Cyril B. Romney, Virgin Islands Party candidate for the Fourth District JoAnn ‘Roxie’ Romney declared that she is ready to step up to the challenge and become the next Representative.

She was speaking at the Bandstand in Road Town, Tortola last night May 21, 2015 as the Virgin Islands Party train continued to charge on.

“I have always been taught that to whom much is given much is expected. This is why I am here tonight. I stand here before you tonight to let you know I am ready,” she said.

VIP an easy choice

The prominent entrepreneur said the Virgin Islands Party was an easy choice for her as it is and always has been a party of inclusion. This is borne out by the diversity of the slate of candidates on the VIP ticket, many believe.

Romney refuses to listen to naysayers

Romney shrugged off statements that she is too business oriented to be suited for a representative of the people. “Some have said that I am too business oriented to be a servant to my country when I am ready now,” she said.

She said she has spent a lot of time listening to the people of the Fourth District. That is what I have been doing over the last few weeks and that is what I will continue to do throughout this campaign."

“I will not listen to the naysayers and I will certainly not listen to my opponent. I will listen to the people in this community,” she said.

Romney said that a handout today without the certainty of tomorrow is not what public service should be. She said that empowerment is what allows people to control their destiny.

The VIP has plans

Romney said that her vision for the Fourth District is to have a district that is properly kept, healthy and with adequate infrastructure. She said too that the Fourth District must be commercially driven to proudly reflect the capital of the Virgin Islands

She said that there is need for infrastructure upgrade as well as the construction of essential facilities in various locations. “The NDP will say that they have Peebles Hospital and Crafts Alive, but what about other places in Road Town such as Lower Estate, the Softball Field and Festival Grounds,” she asked.

She cited the very bandstand where the meeting was taking place was not complete and said that the VIP would be committed to finishing this project. She promised that the VIP would construct restroom facilities and enhance the playground area so that families can come out to visit. Romney said too that the VIP would finish the Queen Elizabeth Park, calling this one of the unfinished projects of the NDP.

She promised that her Government will pay attention to landmarks with a view to having them be used as tourist attractions and that Road Town will become a vibrant business centre.

TO I FROM HERE: Obviously, you don't live in Road Town, or perhaps you are very, very blind! Have Eyes and Shall Not See!

Mark has the 4th under control all right, or so he seems to believe! That is perhaps why he has not done anything Nada, Zippo! Although not much, Hon Archie Christian tried to clean up the town. Re-electing Vanterpool would be a nightmare. I for one don't want to live through that.

Mark Vanterpool is our Minister of Comms and Works and took his job seriously. To say he hasn't done anything in Road Town is a big damn lie! The National initiatives like Crafts Alive, Cruise Pier expansion and complex, sewage works, road works have all positively affected the 4th District. You would rather him pour concrete all over the district just to say he did something, like Fraser does in the 3rd? IF Fraser took care of the entire Territory when he was in that Ministry, like Mark is doing now, we would have a VIP Government in power for a long time. To say Mark has done nothing is pure rubbish!

Something was done in each district. Sad thing is that $21plus million debt that was left in limbo from 2006 caused a muck. More muck now cause we dig another hole with the cruise pier. But we busy building savings funds while the country crumbling. A country cannot progress effectively without its people.

That is actually a private business dumping liquid waste in the £$%^ Ghut. That has nothing to do with government but rather a nasty business/individual who chose not properly dispose of their waste!!!!!

People of the Virgin Islands. Now is the time to X out corruption and fraud in our 4th district. The power in your hands. The Road Minister will garner votes because of the society he built around him. The boys on the block will vote for him because he help them r*pe this country. It sound harsh my people. Look around the 4th drugs, crime, fraud, stealing, guns, killing young people going to waste. Road Minister is just that road building roads our young men are dying and fallen to drugs and crime. Road Minister smiling through our roads. When you vote ask yourself if who you voting for is a positive product a good leader. Road Minister too c*****t to see what he's doing to the country. Make your X count to a crime free BVI.

Roxie countribute to the tourism Road Minister contribute to he p*****t and c******n. Make your X for country.

Miss Romney heads up you look the part. No one comes into the Political arena perfect. As we go along we learn from our pass and wished that we had done things differently. This is surely a time for reflection. Best wishes. If you are not successful I hope we will see you again. I know you will come out of this a better person.

The current rep for the 4th has forgotten the 4th District is made up of more than Road Town. All other areas in the 4th (Long Bush, Botanic Station and Lower Estate) have been neglected these 3 & 1/2 years with the exception of a wall going up in lower estate and one on the way to Long Bush as a last ditch effort to give people the impression that he doing something. Waste of time is and babble for talk is what he is.
