‘I admitting to what I know about’ – burglar Jeremy Williams
He was before the court to answer two charges of burglary. While he pleaded guilty burglarizing Buck’s Food Market on Virgin Gorda having been caught red handed on surveillance camera, he interjected on several instances as the crown was presenting its allegations of him committing a similar act on another store on Virgin Gorda.
When he said that he did not even know the name of the store that was being referred to and there was no way he could have broken into two stores on the same date Magistrate Baptiste-DaBreo attempted to guide him but informing of the procedures and it was not until she told him that she would have no choice but to have him leave her court room that he calmed down a bit.
According to evidence of the Buck Food Market incident at approximately 6am on June 6 the store’s supervisor arrived at the business place to open up as usual when he discovered the store broken into. Contact was immediately made with the store owner and the police when surveillance footage showed images that fit the description of Williams. He was subsequently taken into custody and admitted the act.
In instance of the other business it was the Crown’s case that on the May 27, 2014 the owner of Keaunda Kysy Tropix had secured his business before leaving the Territory. On June 5, 2014 Mr Eldon Young a security guard at the Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour heard an alarm system going off and decided to check to determine the source.
In the vicinity of the store the security guard noticed a man dressed in all black including a hoodie running away for the business place and upon further investigating he discovered that the store was broken into. He also found a silver and gold chain believed to have been dropped by the escaping burglar.
Williams was arrested on suspicion that he had committed that break and enter robbery. Under caution he had agreed to recorded interviews by the police and on the first instance declined being involved. He then later had a change of heart and decided to come clean when he in recorded interviews admitted to the crime.
However in court yesterday he pleaded not guilty to the latter charge and is to return for trial on November 24, 2014 and for sentencing for the guilty plea to the robbery of Buck Food Market he is to know his fate on November 28, 2014.
When he was told of the sentencing date he asked the Magistrate, “Why you can’t sentence me now,” and was told “I am not ready to do so now” he further asked, “so what I must be doing sitting up there all dis time,” and the Magistrate responded telling him that his time spent in prison will be taken into consideration when she passes sentence.
