ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI -It was the usual National Democratic Party (NDP) infighting in the House of Assembly (HoA) on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr the Honourable  Kedrick D. Pickering (R7), has blasted the House of Assembly (HoA) Speaker, Honourable Ingrid Moses-Scatliffe, who his government elected two times, in 2011 and 2015.

Hon Pickering, a senior member of the HoA, told the public that is was an “abuse of privilege for the Speaker to continue in her role as there are reports of her running for Office” under the Honourable Myron V. Walwyn's (AL) side of the NDP.

Many persons, especially the party founders, have ran for cover since Hon Walwyn, a divisive and controversial figure, became the new leader.

New party?

There are also reports now surfacing of a breakaway group with another NDP being form allegedly, led by Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), the Minister for Health and Social Development.

At the HoA Sitting on Thursday September 20, 2018, Leader of the Opposition Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), raised a question on a Point of Order.

The Opposition Leader asked the embattled Speaker to “verify for the record of this Honorable House whether or not there is any merit to the news reports that stated that you the Speaker of the House is now an At Large candidate to contest the upcoming general elections under the NDP Banner?”

Yes or No?

The veteran politician said the HoA needs a “Yes” or “No”.

As usual however, Speaker Moses sidestepped the question, claiming that she “cannot answer to rumors” when in fact she put her name forward and accepted to run with the NDP in their recent executive  committee meeting.

It was also alleged that Hon Walwyn, the Co leader of Government, leaked the information to a public relations person, who in turn leaked it to an Online news site.

Many political  and legal experts said that there is nothing legally baring Ms Moses-Scatliffe from running while being Speaker, however in a Westminster system where a House Speaker  by convention is expected to be impartial, it compromises her own integrity and that of the House as a institution.

This is how we know Walwyn's team is already corrupt b/c they casually do things that threaten democracy. If they were not corrupt they would not do anything that even appears as corruption. This game they're playing is nonsense, she's running b/c she hasn't denied it & even if she does today she should still be removed. Walwyn is trying to strategically place his ppl where he wants them. That's a DICtator move

This is a simple question for Ingrid Moses-Scatliffe, Speaker of the House of Assembly an appointed position that should be non-partisan, to answer. It is a simple yes or no. If yes, she needs to step aside to avoid to avoid the negative perception and in the interest of good governance, even if the constitution permits serving as Speaker and standing for political office at the same time. Madame Speaker, do the right thing and resign if you are running. Do any of the co-leaders, Premier or MEC, got the balls, courage and moral leadership to engineer the right thing for the public good?

They are all tight because Myron is the leader of the NDP party. Girl Ingrid, if you want to run, run. When you are ready to announce what your decission is, then you do it, not when nosy Peyton Place Tortola want you to do it.
