ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –First District Representative and Leader of the Opposition, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), has lashed out at the architects of a resuscitated ‘smear campaign’ to not only, “destroy my entire family, my wife, my mother, my children" but to also, "try to undermine the massive progress that our Virgin Islands Party (VIP) has made.”

The Opposition Leader, in a social media message issued on August 9, 2018, has since condemned, what he called the “vicious and divisive” message being circulated recently and perpetuating an, “outdated, unproven and unsubstantiated allegations against me and my family.”

Hijack Elections

Hon Fahie said the latest ‘smear campaign’ is, “a desperate attempt by destructive individuals to hijack the next elections.”

Speaking frontally to the allegations levelled against him, in the circulated messages, Hon Fahie said, “…for those who may not know, this is old news, which has been making the rounds every election since 2003…Fifteen long years and the best and only shot they can take at me is an allegation, which resulted in nothing.”

Addressing the timing of the release of the ‘unsubstantiated allegations,’ the Opposition Leader said, “…it is commonly known that desperate people, do desperate things and this is no exception.”

Several critics of such 'tactics' have laid blame at some elements in the National Democratic Party (NDP), as being responsible for spreading 'lies and propaganda' because they have nothing to offer the people of the Virgin Islands (VI)

The Opposition Leader, in fact posits, in a direct swipe at the ruling NDP administration, “…this appears to be their new blueprint…destroy British Virgin Islanders who are brave and strong enough to speak out against their abuse of power."

No Exception

According to Hon Fahie, “their disrespect for the people, their lack of appreciation for morality and the peoples’ fundamental belief in good-governance, their lack of respect for accountability and our Territory’s human resources, reveals itself in everything they say or do."

This recent act, he said, in reference to the ‘smear campaign,’ “is no exception.”

He said, “…for years I have repeatedly called for greater transparency and accountability; elimination of nepotism and conflict of interest; and the full disclosure of contracts, including those illegally awarded” and “I knew my family and I would become victims.”

Hon Fahie notes however, “the cowardly attacks (are from) people who do not have the Virgin Islands at heart….the truth is, I welcome this opportunity to finally begin the process of fully disclosing the originators of this witch-hunt, that has caused my family countless hours of grief and has stained my name.”

Are you one of the trolls, saying something to get a reaction to it? Yes, the BVI population needs to hear and know what is happening to their hard-earned money paid in as taxes, Social Security and National Health Insurance. The electorate also needs to think for themselves before voting back in the NDP Gang.

This is how your vicious and divisive messages and unproven and unsubstantiated allegations sound and feel to the families of the members of government. What goes around comes around.

I hope this will stop the tearing down of each other and we can hear some vision and goals for a brighter future for our beloved country.

Ok. Here are a few facts: 1. The VI is in crisis and needs strong leadership to lead it out of crisis, 2, election fever is in the air , 3) the sitting government is on the hot seat, 4) tribal politics is strangling the BVI, 5) violent and property crimes are on the rise, 6) the infrastructure is Third World, 7) the economy is dangling of the economic cliff and is undiversified, 8) the educational platform is weak, 9) shaky property insurance programme, 10) medical system tinge better than Third World, 11) territory in recovery mode after the hurricane devastation, 12) bloated civil service.......etc.

This is a laundry list of problems that will require practical solutions. Consequently, the territory needs a leader(s) that has affordable practical solutions that will improve citizens’ lives and advanced the territory forward out of the doldrums. Politicians should debate issues that are pertinent to representing the electorate, making it and its family lives better. The politics of personal destruction has no place in BVI politics; falsely smearing one and one’s family without supporting facts should be out of outbounds and residents should not tolerate it. They must demand substantive debate. The Machiavellian approach, ie, by any means necessary, is out of bounds. Let’s be aware that we wear what we buy, make your bed hard and lie in it hard. Cast aside the “ pickanagar” campaign of yesteryear and embrace a new progressive campaign today. The campaign among combatants will be adversarial but it should be based on policy(s).........etc.

Are you saying that we should just sweep the fact that one of our possible future Premiers has an ominous cloud floating over his head with allegations of money laudering? Especially in the economic crisis we are facing in our Financial Services Industry? C'mon man, our voters are not naive and out of touch as you think. We will choose our next leader with all things considered.

@@Political Observer, I have no dog in this fight but let’s keep the process fair and real. The alleged money laundering claim hasn’t been floating since 2003; this is 15 years. This accusation is rolled out every election cycle, ie, 2007, 2011, 2015 and now again 2018/2019. Is the investigating agency that “Less” that after 15 long years that it still cannot confirm the allegation. In our legal system, allegation is not guilt. Look like the power of repetition and perception management is a tactical move by competitors. This is reminiscent of Bi-water football that was kicked around for two election cycles; it was a winning issue and every effort exerted to make it failed. People marched against it. Then as soon as Seven Seas, a company that has a local billionaire interest, bought the company Bi-water is good. Where are the protesters/hypocrites now? The bottom line is that accusers should either PUT UP or SHUT UP.

There's nothing to sweep under the rug with Fahie because his allegations that were trumped up were investigated and found not to be substantiated. However bald head over priced $1.5mill wall where people who didn't work also got paid, his mamy acts of conflict of interest, and many others as well as the missing plane with the missing $7.2mill, the over $40mill over expenditure on the ports project, and many more needs investigating because they are real clouds over the country. So let's stop the one sided attack on Fahie that has failed from 15yrs ago.

I read the 15 year old investigation that was being sent around on whatsapp. Some brow-raising allegations to say the least. I don't really see it as smearing though as anyone can access this information on the world wide web. I think Fahie missed a great opportunity in solidifying his calls for transparency.

The poster child of Transparency and Accountability wishes to not speak of an investigation by the Feds. Now that's hypocritical! This investigation was not sanctioned locally, this was Uncle Sam's work. Everyone speaking about how many years has passed but conveniently overlook the details of what happened. No amount of thumbs up or thumbs down can whitewash This!

@@what. This allegation has been thrown around for 15 years, no shred of evidence, no charges laid, no conviction by a court, so why must Fahie dwell on this. He has been vindicated. But some of us want to still live in 2002/2003 when we are in 2018 where the norm of the day is blatant corruption under the NDP regime. Ministers of government or their close affiliation aligning themselves with companies that are benefiting from government contracts, ministers of government forming companies in other persons name and awarding contracts to themselves, permanent Secretaries been part of companies that are getting government contracts. $1.5 million dollars on a 1/2 block wall around a high school, over $40 million dollars over spending on a pier park, $7.2 million given away to two scammers. No financial auditted statements for over 10 years. No money to even repair a simple school or clinic after hurricane Irma and many many more infractions. Theses are real issues that needs to be addressed not a 15 year old allegation that proved to be nothing.

This is exactly what was detailed in the US investigation. With that airport telecommunications project. Maybe you should read it again!

I have read the story perfectly well and fully understand what I read. My point is, in case you missed it, Is that those allegations were 15 years ago and all the allegations were proved unfounded, because all the names mentioned were vindicated, no one were ever charged base on all the allegations. What I have mentioned is what is going on presenting, do not be naive, you fully well know what am saying. Do not dwell on 15 years ago, dwell on the now.

I know that he is a man of God and once God chose you to lead like Moses, he will equip him and he will be victorious. Don't mind all the distractions. I know God is with Andrew and he will win the election for the people and silence the critics.

I pledge my entire family support for Hon. Fahie the V.I.P. I cannot wait for him to be the next Premier. Keep up the good work Hon. Fahie.

The most confusion and wicked political acts in the history of BVI politics is since More-ron was elected. He divides everything and everyone. He tries to destroy all who he feels doesn't agree with him. He's a spoiled child. He has divided the NDP. Divided the country. Divided and destroyed families. His bottom less pit of our money cannot repair these things.
