Hon de Castro leads World Teachers Day celebrations in VI

In a Facebook post yesterday Saturday, September 5, 2019, Hon de Castro said, "I could not let today, October 5th, the day officially designated as World Teachers' Day, pass without sharing a few moments from yesterday... 700 gifts were prepared for all the primary and secondary teachers, both public and private, across the entire territory; Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke."
World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is held every year on October 5 to honour teachers and recognise their contributions to education and development.
"I saw teachers who have taught me, teachers who I taught alongside and teachers who I have never met. Yet, it was evident that there was one thing that we all had in common - the desire to make a difference," she said.
'Teachers are Honourable' - Ms de Castro
Bearing tokens with the words, "We are be 'cider' selves to be celebrating you," and "I 'donut' know what we would do without teachers like you," Virgin Islands teachers expressed glee when receiving their special gifts.
According to Ms de Castro, "I know I hold the title of Honourable, but yesterday I came into contact with so many honourable men and women who go above and beyond the call of duty every single day, to impact the lives of our children. Our future in the BVI is brighter because of them."
She underscored, that herself being a teacher at heart, "I just wanted to give this simple but special token of appreciation to all of you."
