ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Second Sitting of the Second Session of the Third House of Assembly (HoA) will continue on Tuesday October 25, 2016, according to information obtained by our newsroom.

The HoA last met on October 13, 2016 when Opposition Members accused the D. Orlando Smith Administration of paying little regards to questions from the Opposition in the HoA, asked on behalf of the people of the Territory.

The Premier moved the 'Questions and Answers' to the end of the Order Paper at the last Sitting. He is also currently away and will miss the HoA sitting on October 25, 2016.

It is unclear if the Acting Premier Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7) will answer the questions asked of the Premier.

No Regards for the HoA

On the day of the last Sitting, senior Opposition Member Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in a statement said it is clear that the repositioning of the Questions and Answers to the bottom of the agenda once again demonstrates “the NDP Government’s lack of commitment to Transparency, Good Governance and the work of the Opposition on behalf of the People of the Virgin Islands.”

Hon Fahie further stated that Government members read a total of eight (8) statements, which spoke about increasing the salaries of its members while owing many vendors for months, and returned bills for their 2nd and 3rd readings in record time before the public was given ample time to give their views.

“And yet, the one item on the Order of the Day, which will ensure Good Governance, continues to be given the lowest value of importance by this NDP Government,” Hon Fahie continued.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) Government has been accused of bullying the Opposition for the past 5 years in the HoA, aided by the Speaker of the House Hon Ingrid A. Moses.

HoA has little respect

Following the 2011 general election that saw the NDP returned to power, the HoA has been held in the lowest regards with a majority of residents having little respect for the institution.

It has been turned into a place where politicians, particularly the controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn, has used the HoA to go after persons and businesses he does not like and disrespect members of the Opposition.

There are still concerns about his own legitimacy to sit in the HoA. The session of the October 25, 2016 Sitting will be carried live on CBN Channel 51 at 2:00 PM.

The NDP was more interested in giving 2 of their candidates raises and raising taxes to kill the remaining businesses.

Amending the order paper in the house and putting questions on the back burner has become the norm. The person in the chair must strike a balance. Everything has an end. Even a rope

Maybe Premier Orlando can explain in public to everyone why certain neighborhoods do not want white people to
move there as ongoing residents. the kind of white people who are not racist but had to pull out because the
local neighborhood doesn't want them there except for the short duration tourist types. do unto others as you would
wish done onto you - and now there will be a show of power. don't take out on the innocent what the guilty did to
    you. its show time!

@ pissed: you sound white because Orlando is what the rich whites calls the premier of our territory: the coloured folks refer the the premier as Doc or Dr Smith....just as a point of information(there are neighbourhoods throughout this world where people of colour cant not reside)
